My tranny won't shift right

Ok...First gear shifts about where it should i would say around 4500-5000...it goes to second and then shifts at about 2500....then goes to third...It's a th-400 tranny, tach doesn't work, i can tell the speeds about by the sound..and it's not computer controlled, it's carbed...Any ideas on why? is the cable messed up???

see that's the thing...i bought this car and it has been turned into a carbed car and a 3 speed auto...but there isn't really a 400 kickdown switch....it's got the cable goin to the carb...the only reason i don't think it's a 350 is because the tranny shop said it was a 400....but the pan looks like a 350 pan, but it doesn't look like it fits the tranny...

If it has a kickdown cable, it's probably a 350, 400's had an electric kickdown with a switch on the gas pedal.

The electric kick down switch must work, and the vacuum modulator must be connected to true vacuum (not timed port) or any other source. If you hold the transmission selector in second gear, you should be able to take it too any rpm without it going to third.
Hope This Helps!!!

If you have a square pan with the corner cutoff then you have a 350. Get another tranny shop!!!!

well ok, say it's a 350 tranny....How to I adjust the shifting points...It's Not Computer Controlled...it has an olds motor in it....and the shift console is from the 700r4 so when i shift below drive, it's in low...i can't get second by using the shifter
