Pics of 700R4 and the governor please!!!

Hey guys,

A while back I asked for somebody to post a picture of the 700R4 governor, and somebody posted a pic of a nice blue 700R4 and a close-up shot of the governor.

I can't find the old post so could hwoever posted it before please post it again? I would appreciate it very much...

Thank you very much, thats exactly the picture I wanted.

I have a question for you, the governor was covered on the bottom by a little half sphere of rubber attached to a piece of metal, right? I just want to make sure I'm unscrewing the right thing since I ahve ver little experience with trannys.

It's under the dome shaped cover. You need to use a pin punch and a hammer to tap it off. There's a rubber o-ring around the OD to seal it. After that, it just pulls out.

Damn it, I'm confused!

I took off the bottom half-sphere and didn't see anything inside so I unbolted the top half also ad theres nothing inside! Where is this governor, how small is it, could it just have fallen out while I was unbolting everything?

If anybody has diagrams of a 700R4 Tranny please post them becasue I am totally lost.

That's what controls the all the shifting. Once it reaches a certain RPM depending on it's spring weight, and the line pressure controlled by the throttle valve, it shifts.

It's at the back of the transmission just before the tailshaft.

The first clue that you're in the wrong place is that you shouldn't be "unbolting" anything. It's under a dome that is pressfit very similar to what is covering the spindle nuts on your front hubs.

Thanka for the help guys,

I found it, what I took off before was a support holding the tranny up. I'm going to go take off the real governor now and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Piece of cake. Getting the cover off is the hardest part.
