If people are that stupid and are not smart enough to push the damn clutch in before they start the damn car guess what.....THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS DRIVING A MANUAL TRANS. Some cars were built all the way up to the late 80's with out clutch safety switches. I know 1987 for sure.

Your right cause that one time you forget or your mom gets in your car or your friend or your 8 year old sister decides it would be fun to play with your keys and turns the car over while its in first gear and has it jump forward and crashes into someone or something and does serious damage to your car i guess that's worth it to you. It's a safety feature, use it.
Seriously its like 2 wires, wire it up and keep it. You must have it to run legally at any track.
I can't think of any car for that matter that i have hopped into and it didn't have a clutch safety switch. Including my dads 69 GTO...i find it hard to believe any car made after then came without one from the factory.

Wow, tough crowd.
Should you use one, yes. Why NOT use it??? Better safe than sorry.
....but the holier than thou crowd needs to relax a little. Safety? Really? Come on, you take more risks walking across the street.

I had nothing but problems with the switch in my '83 for 4 years, so I just took it out, spliced the wires together, just to be done with it. Couldn't be happier.

I'm not running one either since I had problems with it too. I probably should wire it up like others have said, but it's one of those minor things that takes me forever to get around to. To the OP, if you're still working on the swap, it's best just to wire it up now, or like me, it'll never get done.

Probably should have it installed and functioning on my car...but nobody touches my car anyway.
Professionally, I've replaced them as it was part of my safety inspection routine.

How many states really have saftey inspection as a yearly process? I am curious to know. GICATA I am with ya. My car sits in a garage with the doors locked and the garage locked up tight and I have the only key. The wife and kids have no business in the garage anyway that is my domain and they know it.

Re: how many people here are not runing a clutch safety switch?
Yea, some saabs didn't have them up to close into the 90's. I can't remember the year exactly, but i couldn't figure out their "you have to be in reverse key lockout," and as i was moving the key fowards and back to try and get it out of the ignition, the car jolted fowards. I fortunately reacted quickly and had my foot on the brake to begin with, but they are out there.
Another thing to think about is yes, what if someone gets in your car unaware, and causes an accident. I could see the law trying to come down on you for "liability" of tampering with an existing safety feature or your insurance company not covering damages for some stupid reason. To each their own, just be responsible and make sure noone unaware gets in your car.

Of all the times I've been to the track there was never a check for a clutch safety switch.
Then again GM never installed them on '67s.
And starting an engine with the clutch pedal down is murder on the thrust bearing. No oil pressure and all that.
Only need to check that the stick is in neutral before turning the key.

Re: how many people here are not runing a clutch safety switch?
No european or jap cars over here have ever had any safety starter lockout switch afaik..
But then most cars here are manuals, and the lawsuit thing isn't so bad here either.
If the engine stops for any reason you can always get the car off the road by "starting" it in 1st or 2nd, clutch out..
