Motor Mounts Different L/R?
Motor Mounts Different L/R?
I popped the motor mounts off an L69 without paying attention to which side they came from. Now I'm looking at them sitting on the bench and they look slightly different and have different numbers stamped on rhem.
One is stamped 3349 71 and the other is 0394 36. Are the Right side and Left side different?

I read my own post and couldn't quite figure out why there were no responses and all of a sudden I had to laugh, as it reminded me of my own grandson who still has trouble getting his shoes on the right feet. (Chip of the old block? -- pun......).
I could have made my intentions more clear. I don't give a rats a** about the L69 as that was an LG4 transplant anyway but I don't think there is any reason why I shouldn't be able to use those mounts (as fastened to the block) on my #010 block (383) and drop it into an 87 Camaro, as long as I can get them on the right side, if there is a right side/wrong side.
That's my question(s) -- are drivers side and pass. side (block shells) different and if so which is which? ------- I can't seem to get a straight answer from my grandson.......It must be getting late!

I think that they are identical, but there is a rightside-up and upside-down to them. When I installed my engine I had one of them on wrong and the engine mounts wouldn't seat on the frame mounts right. I'll look at my car tonight and give you a better answer. The steel bars in the rubber are higher on one side than the other.
Sorry wrong engine mounts.

the shells that mount to the engine are the same. can go on either side. the mounts that mount to the frame are also the same. can go on either side. and if i remember correctly you cant mount them upside down.
The brackets that mount to the engine cannot be switched. One side lets the motor twist

They are different. If you look at them you will notice that one has a captive nut, and one doesn't. The one with the captive nut goes on the pass side. The factory did it this way so they wouldn't have to fight with the fuel pump to get a toll down there to the nut. The left through-bolt goes in from the front, at least from the factory.
The L69 was a whole lot better of a motor than the LG4, even though the block and heads are the same. People with LG4s could do well to look at the L69 and understand what makes the LG4 such a POS. You can sort of make your own L69 out of LG4 parts by putting flat-top pistons in it, decent exhaust, a decent cam, the dual-snorkel cold-air intake, and an electric fan. The factory picked up 45 HP in 83 by doing those things.
A garden-variety 350 block like the 010 is absolutely identical on the outside to a 305. Any external things like motor mounts will intercange perfectly. You did the right thing by just snagging a pair off of a car.

RB,my 383 project pretty much has me on overload but I've been thinking of making that L69 laying in the backyard a winter project. Your comment LG4 vs. L69 makes me think just a bit more of trying to make something out of it.
Back to motor mounts. You talk about a captive nut. I presume you mean a nut that is an integral part of the mount, as in welded on.
Neither mount has such a nut and both of the long bolts and nuts are identical.
I guess maybe it's not that big a thing as I've got a 50-50 chance of getting it right and if not, it should be easy enough to switch. Getting it right on the stand just eliminates one more concern at drop-in time.
I guess I'll get a body sock for that L69 and keep the rain out. Thanks.
