CORVETTE SERVO ?

Hi ,I would like to know what the corvette servo does when you install it in a 89 trans am ,are there any benefits in the swap , or is it just a waste of time and money.Several people told me to swap in the vette servo but they can't seem to tell me what it does. Please someone explain it to me .
Thanks. (been to some sites but all they say is how to install it no explanation on what it does)

The 'Vette servo (which you might already have) has the largest second apply diameter made by GM. This increases holding power in second, and makes for a firmer 1-2 and 2-3 (due to slower release on 2-3).

The REAL reason GM came out with it was to address a 2-3 cutloose (engine flare on the shift), therefore the above mentioned slower 2-3 band release makes up for it.

I prefer to only use it where it is needed, IE, truely high power cars, not your usual 250 HP at the flywheel jobs that people THINK have more power.

Take the Servo out. The 'Vette Servo has the last three numbers "093" cast into it while the regular V-8 is "553" and the never use Servo is "554".

Uh oh. Mine says 554. Does that mean i should never use it again? or should it never have been used in the first place? or should the people never use it to build my tranny which they did and thats why it doesnt work? or does it mean they never used that number? what? i dont get it. maybe it just doesnt exist, this is all a bad dream. yeah thats it.

I think the "554" is the NON performance version.

The 554 should not be used in anything but a low output V-6 (I don't use themon anything and neither do any knowledgeable builders). GM put these in allot of V-8's though trying to get a compromise on shift quality concerns at various throttle positions. For most aplications the 553 is the one to use. If you have a true high power application then go for the 093.

Maybe this will help you understand: 2-4 Servo ID
