TV cable problem, new cable even
Replaced the TV cable in my 92RS. 350 TPI Car
now the cable will not hold its adjusment. I mean I know how to adjust it but it isn't right
Here is what she does
Floor it from a roll and when in 1st it gets up to 4500 RPM and will not shift nor rev any higher, let off of the gas and it shifts into second and goes up to 4500 and does the same thing
I can adjust the cable and it will be fine for one pass. But then it goes to doing the same thing again
AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

350TPI
Mods:
K&N filter, Knock Sensor Bypass, 2 chamber flowmaster muffler, 4th gen exhaust tips, 3 1/2 inch aftermarket cat back, Rebuilt bottom end come the weekend of the 20th!
250shot of the laffin gas is on its way as well, wonder why I need to rebuild the bottom end?

Assuming you have the cable adjusted properly, the TV valve my be sticking
in the valve body (hydro lock). There are
various fixes for this..Transgo probibily has the best one. Also could be a sticking upshift valve and or govenor. Make sure the cable is fully deployed at full throttle.
Then try backing down the adjustment a few clicks. Does it do this in "D", while auto/ shifting or only during manual shifting.?
Is it intermident or does it every time?

well everytime it does it I stop the car and readjust the TV cable and it corrects itself
Could the linkage that the cable hooks too be sticking and when I adjust the cable it unsticks it?
I don't think I have ever manual shifted the car so I can't tell ya if it does it or not

Just fixed it
Had to adjust it and then move the cable 2 clicks out
Wonder why?
Now will the cable set itself back over time?
Should I go put some superglue or something on it so it don't move again?

Will it move again?
Should it ever move, I understand stretch but that won't happen everytime I nail it
I know it is clicking into place
is the TV cable different fro different years and applications?
I bought one for a 1992 Z28 w/ a 350 because no one believes me when I say it is a RS w/ a 350 from the factory

The TV cable should stay in adjustment
once set right. Is your cable bracket secure?
Have a Bud floor the gas pedal while you watch the cable and bracket.
I'm not sure, but there probibily are different lengths cables depending
if you have a V6,V8,TPI,TBI carb etc.
It's very common for the TV valve (which the cable moves) to stick open or closed. If the problem continues you'll have to drop the valvebody and correct it.

That is why I use this method: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
