how hard is a th400 swap

how hard is a th400 swap

im building a 383 stocker that should have around 450-500 hp, and in a year or so after that im goint to get a 6-71 blower witch should bring it to the 600hp range, so i was wondering how hard it would be to put a th400 in. will i need a custom driveshaft, will i need to fabricate anything, and how much hp will aq th350 take. thanks

A turbo 350 should take all a 383 can dish out. I have a turbo 400 in my camaro but I had to get a drive shaft built for it. The 200c crossmember will bolt up to it ( I had to elongate one hole) You will need an electronic down shift with a 400 that hooks up to the gas pedel. A turbo 350 is much easyer and economical to pop in there, 200c compoinets are a dime a dozen.

so you think a 350 can take in access of 600hp, if so, im getting a 350, i know the swap is eiser

my friend put a TH400 in his 82 z28. I'm not sure what they did about the driveshaft. He has a whole garage full of them so he found a peice off one that fit his. He also made his own bracket for the torque arm.

a BUILT th350 will handle it, not a stocker, a stock th400 should be allright tho, the th350 will be a bit of a easyer swap also/

Thats a good one. My friend is running it behing a 500 hp BBC. It should hold up to your plans, but dont expect any tranny to last more than a few years with 600hp in front of it.
