converter keeps spinning

Im trying to take the bolts off my converter but they're on super tight. i can get to the bolts fine its just they're on so tight the converter just spins. any way to lock it in place or good tips. ( i've done it before, my uncle just really cranked down on the bolts last time we swapped tranny's)

Re: converter keeps spinning

Hold the ring gear with a large flat tip screwdriver.

Re: converter keeps spinning

Don't be cheap with purchasing tools. Go Buy a flexplate wrench and do it correctly. It will save your hands, knuckles and having to replace the flexplate when you have a snafu and break off the flexplate starter ring teeth. There just isn't any substitutions here --- unless your very lucky---, that usually happens only a few times. Good flexplate wrenches start at under $50.00 and go on up to $100.00 . You won't be sorry on buying one. You will use it more than you know. Red Loctite the converter bolts only a couple threads when going back together... this is a plenty.

Re: converter keeps spinning

Also, warm the bolts with a propane torch for a few minutes. This will soften the locktite that is on the threads.

Re: converter keeps spinning

Welcome to the forum! Reverse seldom fails, but when it does, it is usually internal. I assume we are talking about an auto trans?
Please start a new thread for assistance on your problem. You will get more replies, and it is also a bit more polite than to piggyback it on someone else's thread.
