Rebuilt 700R4 Shifting Bad and Wont Kickdown(PLEASE HELP)
I have an 89 Iroc that I put a new crate carb 350 in and had the tranny rebuilt. I have an Holley 600 Carb and have the appropriate Brackets and linkage connector. I have adjusted and readjusted the tv cable several times. The car will shift fine through gears 1-4 on a light acceleration. On moderate accel it feels like it is sliding trough the gears. When I floor the car it will not kickdown, every now and then it seems like it wants to for a spit second. Its almost like my tv cable is too long....Could this be the case? I dont think its the tranny as it shift fine manually. Please help me out!!!

Once you guys pulled the slack out with the cable stop did you adjust the tv cable the way youre suppose to? How was the slider positioned when you took the slack out? Thanks....Im really frustrated....engine has barely 100 miles on it, runs great but I cant get the tranny right, Im afraid Im going to burn it up if I dont get it right soon.

yeah, we pulled the black slider out almost as far as it can go, then pulled the slack out of the cable, then tightened down the cable stop. then made adjustments from there. and yeah you deffinatly do NOT wanna keep driving it under-adjusted like that. itll be toast

if its so far back to where you cant see it, it might not hold in place (might even fall out the back). but id at least put it on the last click or two and see if it MIGHT be enough. if not, then yeah try the cable stop. and whats a noreaster??

Noreaster is a big *** storm....kind of like a tropical storm, just a little weaker. I saw the transfixleo method on here too. Im going to try that as well.

Oh yeah, at one point I had the slider so far back it would come forward by the clicks...it just all shot forward at one time. How did you connect the cable if you cut the black connector off?

hmm, thats wierd that the cable shot forward by "ratcheting", another person on here said they had that same problem too.
and this is what we did, we cut the very tip of the cable off with snips.(that little casting bulge that acts like a cable stop) and after we cut that off, we put the black oval shape piece that connects to the throttle linkage back on the cable, then put the cable stop on after that. the cable stop was used ONLY to keep that black piece on and to get rid of slack.
