Tranny leak into TQ cover
I noticed a few drops under my car just below the TQ plastic dust cover. I crawled under the car, took off the cover and noticed pooling in the bottom of the cover.
I took a look around really didn't notice much, checked in front of TQ towards the engine and it look dry. I looked at the rear of the TQ and it looked a little wet between the TQ and the flexplate(the big gear looking thing with teeth). I checked along the passenger side of the TQ up toward the top of engine and that is the most damp.
Is there something on the passenger side TQ that can cause a leak. I'm guessing the leak is between the TQ and pan.
BTW, the pan looks clean, maybe a seepage on DS front corner.
Please advise as I'm not familiar with trannys

if its tranny fluid leaking than its the input seal probably but im not sure what you are talking about, are you talking about the torque converter when you say TQ

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
Sorry, I mean TC(torque converter) and it is tranny fluid leaking.
and if it is the input seal or rear main seal(are they the same), where do I look to I see.

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
There different. The input seal is the seal behind the TC and flexplate at the front of the transmission. The rear main seal is on the rear of the engine crankshaft. If its motor oil then it your rear main, if its transmission fluid then its a good bet its your input seal, which you said its tranny fluid so... some one else might chime in and think of something else tho...

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
it would have to be the input seal or the very front of the pan

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
i have no idea...... i pull my trans and all myself, its not that hard, i can pull mine in a hour on jack stands
not to cheap i would think, try a thing of lucas trans fix it may get you by (or bars leak for trans)
Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
If you have a decent set of tools I would try it myself. Might even consider buying a cheapo set if you don't already have any tools. I don't know much about transmissions but I don't believe its that hard of a job. I would atleast search it on the net and find out the steps involved in replacing the seal, see if it something you can figure out. How alot of people end up learning to work on their cars, lol, don't want to spend or can't afford to spend the money. Next thing you know your taking on all kinds of jobs....good luck either way.

I have a decent set of tools, ramps and jacks but never touched a tranny. I just don't want to start something and really F it up.
If anyone has a how to guide on changing the seal, I will give it a read and see if i can handle the job.
Thanks for the input guys

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
call a few tranny shops.. that tranny is a 8 min rip out and on the stand. in under 10 min.
most of the time a good shop will ding you for $150 tops (front seal)
any more.. and there just taking you for a ride.
A short rip is a 70 chevy car th350 is a 7 min rip.. thats my best time
worked for AAMCO when i was a Kid..
(this is letting all the bolts just hit the floor) i would sweep them up after...

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
if it's your tranny there isn't much to mess up just make sure you lube up the new seal and make sure the converter ingages all the way it will be 2 clunks besides that just don't drop it on your head and your fine .changing the seal itself takes 10 minutes getting the tranny out since you say you have never done it about 2hours or so just remember where everything goes. good luck and make sure you get the car high enough off the ground so you can get the converter off and out of the way.

Re: Tranny leak into TQ cover
I'll try and do more research, I have a Haynes manual but that's very thin on detail. I have time since the car is not driven in the winter, I'll take a peek underneath this weekend to see what is involved.
