TH350 Kickdown cable for TPI
TH350 Kickdown cable for TPI
Does anyone know of a source for a TH350 kickdown cable that will work with a TPI setup? I am not looking to spend an arm and leg for a lokar piece either. I recall that there used to be a place selling them for around $25.

Re: TH350 Kickdown cable for TPI
I think u guys are stuck. I tried that B&M number and it was like 6 or 8 inches too short. I had to get the lokar 1 but we were able to make the bracket work so we didn't have to spend the money on that at least.
Re: TH350 Kickdown cable for TPI
I ended up using the TCI cable and it just made it. I adjusted to the max length, but will admit I was doubtful. I will have to find out what part number it was.

That's a great link jmd posted. I will most likely be trying the Techpak Fitzall TV on a current project soon. One other option I saw was this one, from Jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...03100/10002/-1
Anyone have any experience with it?

I just got my Techpak Fitzall cable for my car. Haven't had a chance to install it yet but i will post up the results once i do.
Re: TH350 Kickdown cable for TPI
So, to update, I bought the TeckPak USA universal detent cable, and as jonarotz mentenioned about the one he used, it BARELY fit, even adjusted to max length. I bought the fitzall off ebay, and for the price, you cant beat it. (after looking at all of these cables, they all look the same, as if they are all made by the same company anyway...who knows) the TeckPak one is the most affordable I saw though -I only paid like $21 for it. When I realized this thing might not extend long enough to reach, I called TeckPak and they were very helpfull. They said they might have one that is slightly longer, and would call me back and let me know. He did call back, but we have ben playing phone tag, and in the mean time, I made the most direct routing from the plenum bracket to the trans I could, and it just made it, without taking any harsh bends or too tight of radius. I used the K35955U part# (TH350 model) Outside of that, it is a simple, well designed piece. The base at the trans was slightly thicker than the stock one I was previously using, requiring a longer hold down screw. The only thing I dont like at this point is the big, ugly cable end retainer that clamps down with a set screw. I know its just me, but it looks cheesy and overly large. I am going to look into a better option for this.

Here is the giant (ugly) cable retainer & untrimmed cable (this is how much cable was left-barely fit!)

Base

This is an easy install, but working under an auto trans is messy. It is best done after the the rig has cooled, pan dropped, and put a drip pan or lots of plastic/paper wait till most of the dripping has stopped (it never completely stops
) Again, this is a 1 banana job, just better if done when you have time to let it sit and not rushed (now its the time to do a shift kit if you have any inclination to do so) -Do it!

Here is the relay rod that attaches to the end of the kickdown cable, then attaches to the lever that actuates the valve for down shift. The dog leg end means you have to pull the pin/clip and attatch, then reinstall. Use 2 pair of pliars, one to hold the end of the pin and push (it is tight) and the other pair (needle nose) to hold and guide the other end through the uper 2 holes. If this part can be the real bastard if you let it. Once you figure out the trick, its a piece of cake.

That's not too bad that it only req. a longer screw and a snug fit.
I take it you haven't heard back from him about a longer PN cable?

I have a new one, braided stainless, like the Lokar cable, if anyone interested. I used one like it before and worked great.

Since you have your cable in range of adjustability, crimp it with a small cap; maybe aluminum. Or a tiny nut/screw/washer and shrink tube over it if you like black.

I talked with Roger at TeckPak, I got the feeling it’s a pretty small company. He was a very friendly and helpful. He said that he did have a cable that measured 43” (the TH350 cable I used was around 38” housing and plastic end.) He said it was part of a “switch kit” they sell -basically a conversion kit, but sounded like they would sell the cable only if requested. I would think a longer cable would be a popular item in a “universal” style cable because most all of the factory detent cables for TH350s were pretty short & a dime a dozen in the JYs, but nothing in a longer (factory style TH350) cable seems to exist. At least its good to know there is an option out there. If I did it again, I would do the longer one just to have a little extra cable. 43” would have fit perfect.
