3.42 posi out of a 97 Firebird, need some help.

I picked up a 3.42 posi rearend with disc brakes from a 97 firebird to put in my 91 RS. Does anyone recommend a porportioning valve to use? It has drum brakes on the stock rear. Can I use my stock e-brake cables or do I need to use some from a 97 firebird? Also, the rear had the traction control on it. It has an electrical connector on top of the housing, do I need to do anything with that or leave it alone?? Thanks for any help and information!

1LE combination valve, 2nd design. 89-92 parking brake cables, 1st design if you have a tunnel-mounted adjustment mechanism, the 2nd design if you don't. (You might try the 97 cables). More info toward the bottom of the following link:

So I will need to get the 90-92 1LE proportioning valve that Ed sell's and ebrake cables for a 92 Z28 with disc rear brakes?

Will I need to switch out the speedo gears in the tranny to make the speedo accurate?

Yes. Yes (no tunnel mount). And yes to the speedo gears if the rear isn't the same ratio as the original.

I could help with the T-5, but I'm unfamiliar with the drive and driven gears for the auto. If you're going from 2.73's to 3.42's, I assume you need to swap both out. I suggest calling the following site--I think they'll be able to provide all that you need:

yeah, my stock rear was a 2.73. I will check out the link, thanks. I picked up the ebrake cables today and going to order the proportioning valve now.

Does anyone know the measurements from axle flange to axle flange on the 93-97 and 98-02 rearends compared to third gens?

is the 93-97 rear longer than the 98-02? If so, how much?
