"t5" to 700r4 swap?

my car is originally a 5spd..and im swapping to a built 700r4...

im finding conflicting info about this swap..

my main concerns are if my original crossmember, will bolt up to the T5, and what about the tq arm?

also, will my VSS plug, plug into the 700R4 vss?

and as far as the R4 lockup control goes, i plan on just using a kit

crossmember is the same, torque arm should work, depending on the style of the mount on the trans. the mounts themselves will not interchange, but the direction of the "lips" on the torque arm vary, some face the driveside, other the passengerside. Its a matter of using the right bushing.

vss, i dont know if the plugs are the same.

alright, my main concern is the VSS...

not to worried about the plug being the same, more or less concerned about the signal/compatability being the same..

if i need to change the pigtail, im ok with that..

ive read that the 86-89 cars all used 2kPPM signal, and that 90-92 used 4k ppm...

Both transmissions are originally from thirdgens, 700R4 is from 88 formula, t5 is from 89 formula.

btw, you're car should have 2k ppm

The ECM for 90-92 TPI setups are designed to run on a 4000 pulse per mile vehicle speed sensor (VSS). On the other hand, the 85-89 TPI ECMs are expecting a 2000 pulse per mile signal. Many of the early TPI vehicles with a cable driven speedometer, had the VSS mounted behind the speedometer. The later MAF setups with an electric speedometer had a VSS buffer box mounted behind the dash. The VSS signal runs to the buffer, and the ECM grabs the VSS signal from the buffer box. The buffer box is also responsible for controlling cruise control and the speedometer. The later 90-92 models had the VSS mounted on the transmission, and ran directly to the the ECM. In this case, the ECM handles the signals which run to the speedometer, and cruise control.

Pretty sure both my 88 firebird and 91 firebird Helms manuals show the VSS saying 4000ppm. I can break them out again and check, but I have only looked at the drawings for the V8 cars, I think the V6's were different

Both of these cars are factory original V8'S....

everything ive found/read so far, is 2k for the 86-89s...and 4k for the 90+

apparently the 90-92 split the 4k signal in half, half went to the speedo, half went to the cruise control...

either way, hopefully the VSS signal is compatible...
