Help with flywheel/flexplate on T5 swap

Hi,

We have taken the 700r4 out of my 1988 IROC. I say 'we', but my man Richard from American Technique is doing it all .

The T5 that 'we' took off the donor car was mated to a 350 of unknown origin. It was an 86 IROC but the engine was a replacement so who knows?

Now- Rich is mating the T5 to my 305 tpi block but the flexplate is wrong and doesn't match.

We are really stuck on this and would really appreciate some input. Is there an adapter we should/could use? Do we need a new clutch?

Please help me Thirdgeners.

Cheers,.
Felix

You need a flywheel, not a flexplate.

The 86 up version: one-piece rear main seal, 153 tooth, which will fit your 88. No clue about parts availability in the UK.

EDIT: Oh, and remember the pilot bearing.

The old flex plate which we took off and the new flywheel we are fitting are both 153 tooth but the holes for the crank are alot further apart on the flywheel could it of been a older 350ci say a 2nd gen?

IIRC, the one- and two-piece rear main seal versions have different bolt patterns. Could that be the issue? Check post #13 of the following link for pics:

The crank is the same as the top pic being its a 88 but the flywheel we took out the donor does not look like either of the ones in the pic.
But the crank did look like the bottom pic on the donor engine we sold.
So the ideal solution is just get a flywheel for a 88?
