Will V6 Camaro drive shaft fit V8 Firebird?

OK I need a prop shaft (drive shaft) for my '88 Trans Am, its the GTA. V8/auto. I can get one from a local guy parting out a '91 Camaro RS V6 3.1/automatic. Will this fit my car or is the V6 one different? The guy selling seems to think all 3rd gen F Body will be the same.

Thanks guys.

Yup, the same.

He's right; except for the very early ones (82 & 83). Basically, everything after that, with a 700-R4 or a T-5, will interchange.

It's conceivable that your 88 GTA was originally equipped with an alum drive shaft, though that makes no difference in fitment. Check the RPO's for JG1, if you're interested.

Thanks! The original drive shaft is gone, a previous owner has replaced it with a 2 piece from some other car (for reasons I can't even begin to speculate). The centre bearing of which knocks. Ain't used cars great? An ali shaft would be nice, I didn't know they had them! But for now just a correct drive shaft will do.

Sounds like a fourthgen V6 shaft.

You know, over here you are lucky if you have GM parts on your car at all. Some owners of US Imports seem to think they are in Cuba or something. I have seen Volvo, Jaguar, British Ford and all manner of other incorrect donor vehicles "adapted" to fit American vehicles.

I believe a 4th Gen was the donor on this occasion.

(I am in the UK, BTW)

I respect that Cubans keep things going like they do.
