new probuilt 700r4 with transgo questions
hey everyone i have a newly beefed up 700r4 with all the goodies and transgoshift kit.... i have several questions
1. what kind of transmission fluid should i use i just want to use regular but which kind....
2. my old tranny is still red and im pretty sure they are no particles down in the pan and i was wondering should i flush the transmission lines and all before i put my new tranny in... i got this spray and you spray it in your lines to get all the gunk out.... if so could i flush it with the tranny cooler still in, it is in front of the radiator... or is this a bad idea
3. when putting in a new tranny is it best to get a new cooler at the same time
4. should i get a new cooler because i got the smallest cooler autozone has and im putting a 10 inch 3000 stall behind this new tranny and everyone keeps sayin that a big stall wll eat a transmission alive...

Hey David! Is this tranny from Probuilt Automatics? If so, I'm jealous!
I'd ask Dana specifically if it's one of his, he'll tell you the best stuff for his tranny (especially since I assume he's holding a warranty on it).

Re: new probuilt 700r4 with transgo questions
He recommended amsoil to me. So I went with it. Not cheap but neither was the trans.
I used the flush you are talking about on my radiator cooler. I added a new plate cooler as well when I put the trans in.
I have about 3000 miles on it now and I am very happy. Im running a 10" 2400 stall converter.
I also added a fluid temp gauge on my cooler return line to see how effective the coolers are being.

Re: new probuilt 700r4 with transgo questions
thanks 3rdgenmaro.... but i bought a seperate cooler for my transmission fluid... i deleted ac so i dont have the condensor in front of the radiator no more... i have a transmission cooler there now and i was wondering should i get a new one or flush the old one out.... i think i need a bigger cooler anyways... i also have a autometer trans temp gauge on the window pillar.. i put a bung in the pan so i can get an idea of where the temps are with this new tranny

I seen in another thread where you spoke with Dana today.
What did you find out about this?

Re: new probuilt 700r4 with transgo questions
yeah he told me to use either redline amsoil or ac delco fluid.... he also told me that if my old transmission had red fluid and there are no metal particles in the pan then there is no need to flush out the lines.... which it was cherry red and the pan had no particles... so basically its just take the old out and put the new in.... he did also say that you want the fluid to be anywhere from 155-175.... he said up to 185 is good... anything after 200 starts problems... so i need to see where my fluid is at once my temp gauge is installed... that will tell me if my current cooler is big enough or not....

Always put the biggest cooler you can fit behind your transmission. It's an insurance step, but a really good one considering the cost for your built 700R4. I went with a B&M race cooler, and I really like it.

Re: new probuilt 700r4 with transgo questions
thats what I meant. When dana give you that temperature range, is that what it should read from the pan?
Right now I have mine in the return line. The problem with that is that it appears I am almost overcooling it. It rarely gets up to even 150 in the line. But im sure that it would be higher if it was being read in the pan. Thats why Im asking.
