91z was shifting into third and forth wont now.(plugs were fouled)Black)Took for atest drive .Was fine for a few miles.then droped out of forth.It shifs but like it shifts into neutral.3,4.........Have 1,2 but that it.not like computer cars. (Put new motor in very over stock!)Please help

 

Do you still have second gear? If not, you lost the band. Otherwise, IDK and I'm curious. I've read that no fourth can be a problem with a servo seal.

so it's rebuild time

do a search on this site (that's a hint) and any other site where the 700r4 or 4l60/e are discussed and you will see no 3rd or 4th is very common

It's your transmissions way of saying it wants you to spend money

 

happened to mine too. after about 50 miles on the new rebuild trans, 3-4 didn't work. the band broke to go in 3rd gear. so i needed a new trans or rebuild the one i had. if they are not rebuilt right, or been sitting awhile like mine did before it got used. bands break very easily. did it shift really hard through all the gears? mine did, way too hard. got my transmission for $100 and it works even better than the new rebuild one.

many who feel the onset of transmission slippage will install a shift kit on the advice of their inexperienced friends. Others will change the tranny fluid and filter. Both are desperation plays trying to ignore the obvious
