Is there a way to add a drain bolt to the transmission?
Is there a way to add a drain bolt to the transmission?
I was browsing some threads and noticed some of the guys saying that you can add a drain valve/bolt to the transmission casing?
I would like to do a drain and fill often to keep my tranny going.
Was wondering if there's a way to do this without taking the pan off.

A drain has to go in the pan.

you have to take it off to drill and tap the pan... thats what i did.... i dont see how you can do it with the pan on because all the little shaving will be inside the tranny if you dont get it out...

If you add a drain plug, put it on the SIDE (or back...a vertical part) of the pan, like how the engine oil drain plug is, not on the bottom. I put mine on the bottom & promptly drug it over on incline & got a slow leak. I was lucky it was just a slow leak & not completely ripped out & drained all the fluid out.

Don't bother. Clean tranny fluid is awesome, but it doesn't need to be done that often.
And when you change your fluid the pan has to come of anyway in order to change the filter.

Still nice to be able to drain the pan before you take it off to change the filter.

A tranny drain plug sure makes dropping the pan to reach the filter a lot cleaner. No more tranny fluid bath & fluid all over the garage/driveway or fluid mud pile in the dirt driveway or grass (if that is all you have).

Oh yes, give thanks to those OEs who have gotten the idea and have put drains in their trans pans from the factory. Even after decades and hundreds of pan drops, I still fight doing the job without spraying fluid over the bay floor.
A few quality aftermarket pans come with drain plugs installed. The quick fix DIY plug kits aren't as neat as they sometimes leak.

I wouldn't pay a shop to do it! Its pretty straight forward. You should be able to do it yourself and save a lot of money.

And be careful of where the drain is placed. Some areas under the pan are tight and the plug will hit the trans.
IIRC, I placed it in the right rear side of the pan.
