700r4 4th gear problems

hey guys....
i have been having this problem for about two years... my problem is that if my tranny has been sitting for a while the car doesnt want to shift into fourth gear and it just slips until the tranny is all warmed up... once its warmed up and i decide to give it some throttle its shifts into fourth gear flawlessly and the problem goes away until the car sits and is cool again... this only does this when im trying to get into fourth gear....

what could this be... the fluid is bright cherry red and all the other gears never give me problem... i have been just living with it but i would like to fix the problem...

the tranny has been probuilt locally four years ago.... i love the way it shifts and performs... couldnt ask for a better tranny honestly.... its just this little problem bothers me when i try to go on the highway only to find out the tranny isnt warmed up yet..

Re: 700r4 4th gear problems

definetly a internal problem. its a odd problem so the tranny would need a RDI but probably wasnt built the best, even more so if it was built at a independant shop. Just take it to AAMCO or Lee Myles. The independant shops use inferior parts and dont replace the necessary parts.

Trust me iv been in the trans business for a while managed both independants and franchises. The bigger name guys unquestionably build a far better transmission.

4 of them? damn where are you getting them rebuilt? I can build 700's that are good up to 700 hp and never come back. if you were in jersey i could build a killer 700 for you

Re: 700r4 4th gear problems

all of them were locally.. its almost to the point where i just see the 700r4 as being a junk tranny behind anything other than a stock car with grandma driving.... the most ive ever spent on a tranny rebuild is 1000 dollars... this one has done me well since 08.. same goes for the rear end also.... this is my second rear end and its on its way out smh....

Re: 700r4 4th gear problems

1000 rebuilds must be really crappy jobs to be honest. A good rebuild on a 700r4 goes for 1800-2500 with the R&R and a good warranty included.

Those 1000' jobs the shops are only using like $200 -250 in parts if they are changing the T/C

Re: 700r4 4th gear problems

if you can find the specs on it i can probably build that trans as a bench job for half that, maybe less and the same quality.

na you gotta remember in the 1800 price he has, it dont include a t/c and there is a pretty wide profit margin
