Re: Help i dont know if there screwing me!!

AAMCO? Run away! Ask around and find a good local shop. A friend took in a Jeep with a TH400 that was shifting late. Of course it needed a new trans. I looked at it and saw the vacuum line to the trans had come off. Problem fixed for free and I'm not a mechanic! That put put me off AAMCO for ever. Maybe an isolated incident but that's all it can take.

Thats a bit high, but in the ballpark for a full R&R&R (Remove, rebuild, re-install).

Dont know where you are located, but I've seen a could recently rebuilt 700R4's in the for sale section for pretty cheap...

I'd call around. Most reputable shops in my area are around $1200 + removal/re-installation.

I'll tell ya, it's tough finding an honest transmission shop. No matter what your problem is, their recommendation seems to almost always be a rebuild.

You could try non-transmission shops and ask them who they have do their transmissions work.

Re: Help i dont know if there screwing me!!

id shop around. you could save alot of money. if you can do the install yourself, summit sells 700r4s for around $1,400. dont re-use your converter, get a new one.

No way I'd let them stick me for that much. Ask around your local shops first. I think that's a bit high in my honest opinion.

Re: Help i dont know if there screwing me!!

I totally agree with all the replies above! As soon as I seen the name AAMCO I was like, not just no, but hell no!! Those guys hire teenagers who took a simple course in how to install a rebuild kit in an automatic. 99% of them don't even understand what parts do what function inside the trans. As stated above, the best way to go about getting a good, rebuilt auto trans is to ask around locally, and especially ask guys who are total gearheads or racers, and they can usually point you to a trans guy who really knows what the hell they're doing. That's what I did, and I found a local guy who runs this podunk little trans shop who's been rebuilding them for about 30 years. He explained all these things you should and shouldn't do when rebuilding one, and was able to tell me how this part or that part makes them function better. In the end, I spent about $1100, and that was with a street/strip rebuild kit from Dana at Pro-Built Automatics, a TransGo shift kit, and a 2600 stall converter! So that's $900 cheaper than the price you posted, and I ended up with a 700r4 that's FAR, FAR superior to anything you could get from AAMCO. I did the removal and installation myself. I don't know if your price included removal and installation or not, but I can almost guarantee you wouldn't be happy with a crap rebuild from AAMCO!
