new guy with trans. issue

Well hello im new to the website and have a few questions. I just bought a 1984 z28. its got a 350 with 700r4 tranny. The tranny blew up the next day i took it out and decided i would have it rebuilt. But when he took out the part the holds all the clutches all teeth where broken. so i decided to buy a used tranny i found a good one from a faimly freinds freind. its a 700r4 out of a mini van of some type. i havent got all the details yet but what are some problem i might run into buying this?? will my cross member work? is it in the same place on all the 700r4s? i already have a new torque converter hopfully its the same amount of spline numbers as my other one. Im not racing the car just my everyday driver. nothin real fancy bout it. i just really need a car like now!! also another question there is a 4 prong conector on the driver side of the car its like a squar what is that for?

It sounds like your talking about the teeth on the input drum for the 3-4 pack. Why not just replace the drum and use the same tranny? They go used for about 50 bucks. Who is building it? Also the connector is for the lockup for the converter. As long as the van tranny is a 700-r4 it will work. Just make sure its a 700 and not a 4l60-e.

Reuse the shift cable on the camaro and you may have to reuse the dip stick tube off of the camaro 700

The transmissions are identical. Reuse your camaro parts.

That's for the converter lockup. That locks the converter in 4th to drop the rpm on the highway to save fuel. You can do without it, just will burn more gas. If you want to use it you will need a lockup converter, a harness and a computer from a car with lockup. You can probably wire it up somehow without the harness, and use a manual toggle switch but I'm not 100% on that. I just know how to do it through the dl connector on an already equipped car.

Anyway, you Can do without it as not all of the cars were equipped with it anyway.
