t5 short throw
I'm getting ready to swap in a t5 to my '91 but I'm having trouble tracking down a short throw shifter for it. Can anyone hit me up with some links to check out?

Re: t5 short throw
I agree, the Hurst is a good unit. The other good one to look at is the Pro 5.0 shifter. B&M's Ripper is the cheapest, but most guys say the Hurst and the Pro 5.0 are better units. Btw, one advantage the 5.0 has over the Hurst is it has the same **** thread size as the factory shifters. That's the only downside to the Hurst is your choice of shift ***** is pretty limited.

I like using the Hurst shifter on a T5 with an additional inch removed from the shaft. It’s much easier and comfortable shifting than the stock unit. I refinished the shaft in satin black, but it was not necessary because the stock boot covers the shaft completely.

Re: t5 short throw
Ordered the part from the same eBay vendor. Was one of the most rewarding bolt in installs i've done. Shifter travel is significantly reduced and spring tensions on the shifter rod feels great. If you have the shifter out, check the condition of the vibration damper cup. They are still available from GM, are relative cheap and good insurance.

I'm a big fan of the Pro 5.0 shifter on the T-5 trans.

Re: t5 short throw
The Hurst is easy to fix that though; back before I realized how stooooooopid it was to keep trying to keep T-5s working, I had made a bushing with the inner threads for teh Hurst and the outer threads for the stock ****, so I could pair them up. Looking into the car you couldn't tell it wasn't stock except that if it was in 1st 3rd or R the shifter **** wasn't up against the radio ***** any more.
Can't just "re-tap" it. The shifter is like 3/8"-24, and the stock **** is about 14mm. About like trying to "re-tap" a TPS screw into a main bolt hole.

Re: t5 short throw
Yeah like Sofa said, you really can't just "retap" it since the factory thread size is HUGE compared to Hurst's 7/16 x 24. Also like Sofa said, I too actually gave up on using a T5 before ever using one. After going through all the trouble to get a nice shifter for one, I just ended up putting in a Tremec TKO instead! Re: t5 short throw
Thanks James, I totally forgot to mention the Ripper has the right threads too! I had a Hurst Billet Plus for a while, and I gotta admit the tension and feel of it was awesome. I just hated the fact that my choice of nice shift ***** was so limited. Even Hurst's own line of *****, most of them are 3/8x16 thread, and the T5 Billet Plus is 7/16x24
yes---you can "retap" a 7/16x24 stick to a3/8x16 thread. This way you have more options for shift *****. Not everybody wants that big ugly plastic POS **** that GM used anyway.

Re: t5 short throw
I never cared for the cheap plastic **** either, and quite frankly, the stock leather, baseball type **** is too big for my taste. I ended up using the Pontiac leather **** that's sorta triangular shaped with 3 stitched seams. Smaller than the round Chevy leather ****. It's the most comfortable one I've found so far. I also considered the "SLP" leather ****, but it's like 75 bucks, and I grabbed the Pontiac one from a junkyard and just put it in my pocket, so it was free.
Hell, if anyone's pathetic enough to leave the cheap plastic factory **** on there, you might as well just keep the stock, sloppy shifter too!
I've got the really sharp looking solid chrome **** on my 69 Camaro's shifter, but damn that thing is cold in the wintertime! Leather **** is great in the winter. Member
