3.27 vs 3.73 with a T5

I have a set of 3.73 gears in a 10 bolt now. I am looking at a 9 bolt with 3.27, I was wondering how much difference will I notice?

Sometimes I do feel the 3.73 are a little short but I am not sure, anyone have any experience?

Re: 3.27 vs 3.73 with a T5

I have a 3.27 right now with a T5 and a long tube runner intake. With the torque and low revs, I think I "might" go to a 3.45, but I like the 3.27.

....I would imagine with a carb, you'll want to stay with the 3.73.

I had 3.27s then went to 3.45s huge difference never did 3.73s. For just a bolt on car she ran 13.77 at 3700'da and ran 13.1 in Houston all on radials

Why with a carb would I want to stay 3.73?

Is your powerband similar to the L69 (shift in the low 5000s rpm) or higher? It doesn't take much cam to push it up higher.

If it's a 2.95 / .63 geared T5, I would continue with the 3.73s unless you want a highway-use car.

Oh and my tyranny selection was from the TBI 305 cars since it had a steeper 1st gear

Yes the powerband is 1800 to 6000 and it is a 2.95 / 0.73 trans

I mostly use it for a summer runner when I am not on a motorcycle.

Steeper than what? The 2.74 first gear which I've never seen?

If it is the .73 fifth, pull it and swap that to the .63 fifth. Problem solved and gas money saved.

Re: 3.27 vs 3.73 with a T5

The TBI cars had a different gear ratio than the the TPI cars.... my car launched 1.93 60' times with the TPI granny and was 1.73 with the 91 TBI granny.
