5SPD MANUAL TO 700R4 AUTOMATIC SWAP QUESTION
I may be swapping from T5 to 700r auto and was wondering if factory shifter can be installed without butchering trans tunnel. I want to be able to go back to manual if needed. Also what will be needed for shifter to function properly (neutral switch, back up lights, ignition lock)
Thanks Frank

Re: delete
With a little care a cover for the shifter hole and brackets to mount the automatic shifter could be made removable.

Re: 5SPD MANUAL TO 700R4 AUTOMATIC SWAP QUESTION
I have a late model Silverado and have thought about what the motor would be like in my third gen. However, I know I would grenade the T-5 with the torque that a Silverado motor would make. So I would have to take the tranny from the Silverado too (do they make them with sticks)? There is something sweet about a Camaro with a stick (it is in fact why I bought mine 18 years ago). Nothing like dropping the clutch at 4K. The 700R is a sweet auto but I am not sure what problem you are trying to solve. If it is miserable traffic like we have in DC, then get a beltway beater for those drives (it is probably cheaper) and make your runs at Buzz Creek on the weekend with your T-5. If your motor is too hot for your T-5, get a T-56. The swap is better documented and easier.

Car will be used for street strip use and an auto is the only way to go to compete in bracket racing. My first car was a 1979 Z28 with a 4 speed...I got sick of the engine reving to hi on freeway and banging gears so that car got a 700r4 swap (this was back in 1989) Thanks for your input.

Re: 5SPD MANUAL TO 700R4 AUTOMATIC SWAP QUESTION
I cut a piece of original harness for neutral safety switch and reverse lights from donor car. That harness plugs into neutral switch on shifter. Then I ran wire from added harness to original neutral safety switch wire that was attached to clutch pedal. For reverse lights I ran wire from added harness from shifter to wire that plugged into transmission for reverse lights. Hope this all makes sense.
