I have installed the release slave/cylinder, and my dad and i have bled it a bunch of times, no air is coming out, but can't get the car to go into gear when running. Just wondering if anyone ekse has had this happen or if anyone has any ideas about what to do. Thanks in advance.

Rundown of parts like "used hydraulics, new master cylinder, used clutch and flywheel from 91 Z28" ??
Did the fork and it's spring clip go in the SAME groove on the throwout bearing?
Pilot bearing / bushing installed to back of crank?

 

when bleading it helps to push the cilinder.. the bleeading screw is always close to the inline... so the air inside the cilinder doesnt get pushed out unless you push the cilinder

 

 

I'd been meaning to talk to you about how far off centre the spring clip happens to be in the "correct" portion.

 

Yeah I think whoever took that pic, they just jammed the TOB as far into the fork as it will go... that part is not quite right. But it shows the malfunction of "clipping" the spring onto the back of the groove, at least.

 

I'm lost.....all that stuff is fine. Changed the engine last fall. Hmmmm, what if i start it IN gear??

 

Inability to shift into gear = clutch not releasing

The malfunction in the pics will create that. It's the SINGLE MOST COMMON cause of this, when it fails right after being worked on but was OK before. I'm guessing you popped the trans out last night and checked?

About the only other things are, the clutch gear fits too tight in the pilot bushing (if you used a bushing), or, the fork isn't on the ball stud properly.

Starting the car in gear won't fix the clutch.

Basically, it tells you to eliminate complicated convoluted "explanations" like space alien visitations, unheard-of newly invented failures of parts that never break, Friday night McDonalds parking lot monkey-spank, and the like; and instead, concentrate on looking for some one single simple thing that can account for ALL OF the observed symptoms, while leaving NONE un-accounted-for.

 

Have you checked to see if the clutch fork is moving when you step on the clutch pedal? If it is how much? If it seems to be full movement (about an inch or more) then I would check the fork pivot ball stud and make sure it is screwed in tight. A loose one will cause only partial disengagement leaving you to feel the clutch isn't releasing at all. This takes two people to check.
Remember that if you can truely say that everything mentioned is good then you most likely do not have a problem. Otherwise it is probably something that you have overlooked for whatever reason. Sofakingdom is right in that it is a clutch problem of sorts and that it will not usually be something highly unusual.
Clear your head and start rechecking everything with an open mind.
