Fonky downshift

Ok so when I make a turn left or right at speed, like getting on an off ramp or a fairly sharp turn on the highway, my car down shifts into 3rd... I've never seen or heard of this before... Thoughts??

Re: Fonky downshift

Low fluid level will cause this. Add as at least 1/2 - 2/3 quart of fluid and see what happens here.

I can confirm this. My transmission was 1qt low after the transgo full manual shift kit and when I'd try to power through a turn my RPMs would jump (VERY noticeable if the torque converter was locked up) At first I thought it was slipping. Then I was looking all dumbfounded trying to figure out how a transmission with a manual valvebody was automatically shifting on It's own

You would immediately feel the bump of it switching back to 4th after the car straightened out.

Fire - I think you described exactly what mine is doing... It pisses me off but I guess I'll grab some tranny fluid today and see if that fixes it... The only issue I see is my stick already shows over by a tad...

Re: Fonky downshift

Or maybe the trans mound could be broken and putting the shift cable in a bind??

Re: Fonky downshift

Well I changed the tranny mount yesterday (it broke earlier in the week but the problem was before it broke) and I put a quart in it and that seemed to do the trick... I have a small leak that imma take care of when I get back from Boloxi this weekend... Hopefully I'll win enough to buy a 5th gen lol... I've almost convinced myself to do a LSx/T56 swap layer this month...

Re: Fonky downshift

Once you find the "new correct level", then make a new "full mark" on the dipstick. I've seen this many times over the years.
