91 Z28 automatic to T5 swap
91 Z28 automatic to T5 swap
I have a 91 Z28 with a 305 tpi, auto tranny. I am wanting to install a T5 from a donor car (92 RS 305 tbi). What wiring modifications and/or ECM will I have to make?
Thanks in advance.

I also have had this done. My car has a fast brand chip in it but I have no way to tell if its for a auto or manual. Hopefully since your starting with a unmolested car youll have good luck.

Re: 91 Z28 automatic to T5 swap
I did the swap and for safety, wire up your neutral safety switch wires from the auto shifter to the clutch pedal push down to start safety switch. You could bi-pass this by connecting the wires together, but I don't recommend it.
If your cruise control still works, make sure you keep and transfer all of the switches and small parts needed when you make the swap.

There are major differences between the correct custom 350 manual chip and a stock 350 auto chip.

Re: 91 Z28 automatic to T5 swap
I just got my TPI running and have a t5 swap I did as well. The donor car was a v6 (13 spline input). I got a custom built clutch from McLeod (in Summit). It seems to run fine but my question is does anyone else have a a v6 WC t5 behind a 5.7l TPI engine? Did it hold up well?

Re: 91 Z28 automatic to T5 swap
You will LOVE the new found power and Control of a manual TPI car...
When done properly you DO NOT have to butcher the harness I hate to see a hack job on these cars it eats away at my soul!!!!!! I have done roughly 40 5 and 6 speed conversions since 1989 and they all came out clean and factory looking
Biggest words of advice I can give is be patient and don't rush!!!!! Take your time....most of all ask MANY QUESTIONS to those that have done these cars.
