How many T5 owners removed or have no counter weight
How many T5 owners removed or have no counter weight with no issues.
it does weigh a ton, suspose to help absorb the effect of the rise and fall of the tranny. Mine is tight but still kinda jiggles in its mount, I could remove it, or investigate why its wiggling some and stop it...........

No V8 cars came with that at all.
It's strictly a 6-cyl thing.
Has nothing to do with "rise and fall".
Can't see how getting rid of it would cause any problems, other than maybe you'd get a little more vibration.

Well, now, this discussion has amused me no end. Why? In all the years I've been a member here, I've never heard mention of the piece in question. A quick Google brought me up to speed. I'm livin' and learnin'!
Some V6 and V8 cars were equipped with a secondary cross member which was supposed to help with vibration. But again, the piece above is new to me.

Well mine moves up a good 3/4 of a inch, so each time I hit a bump that jumps up then comes down, thinking its causing more road vibes then it would help right now.

I put a big plastic zip tie around it for a test to hold it up / take the wiggle/slack out of it. It was noticable in the stick on my nasty roads.
But back into the 90s and just being out side is to much work, gonna hafta wait a bit.

The NVH guys at GM put that there. It changes the resonate frequency of vibrations coming from the trans. You probably wont notice any problems without it. GM engineers use vibration detecting equipment and I guess the vibrations coming from that area was over the acceptable range so they put a weight on it to lessen it. Working at a ford dealership, I see weights on all kinds of parts on cars. Exhaust is usually the ones that have it but I've seen them on trans and suspension parts also.

Ended up keeping mine, once I got the slack out of it so it didn't jiggle when I fixed the torque arm mount.

Did give a spare to a buddy to use on his ford truck long ago, and it helpped him. but his was a rise and fall problem. [why i asked] from massive torque, as he put two 4 speed stick trannys end to end, giving him a mega range. Was fun to shift gears going backwards.
