Doesnt Shift Right After Oil Change

Since my car was sitting still for 2 years after the transmission was rebuilt, I decided to change the oil on the transmission. But after i put everything back together it doesnt want to shift correctly? Reverse works ok, but when i put it in gear it seems likes its in second gear and i have to give it enough gas for the next gear to kick in? The only thing i did different is, put a new poly mount, and added the magnetic donut from my 4l80E onto the 700R4 Pan. Used dexron oil and 3/4 of lucas trans oil. HELP!

Re: Doesnt Shift Right After Oil Change

I know it's about as tempting as picking your nose to some people to add stuff that isn't necessary based on snake-oil marketing. But a newly rebuilt transmission has no benefit from Lucas. Think of it this way: Anything outside the norm just adds another element to the troubleshooting.

Is the bellcrank @ the drivers side of the pan fully reaching the 1st gear detent?

Did it ever work in 1st post-rebuild?

Re: Doesnt Shift Right After Oil Change

After it was rebuilt it ran fine. No problems. It just needed an oil change. And is the bellcrank the cable that shifts the gears? If so it goes down to first and all the way up to park. It is also a bit over the fluid level, but nothing serious. But will the magnetic donut from my 4L80E be affecting it?

The magnet will not affect anything.
It almost sounds mechanical. Usually those types of issues are associated with lack of fluid pressure. Did you do a filter change? Did you seat the filter properly?

Hrspwr, yes i did a filter change, removed the old o ring, installed new and it seated properly. Im going to take off the pan again today or tomorrow, but I just figured and get some input before i go and start removing bolts.

Re: Doesnt Shift Right After Oil Change

If nothing else was changed or removed other than the fluid, pan and filter, it sounds like theres not enough fluid OR the fluid pressure is not building up as it should. Maybe a long shot, but try a new filter....possibly it is collapsed and not allowing fluid to be picked up.

I just took off the pan, nothing out of the ordinary, the only thing I can think off is a little bit of anti seize made contact with the oil? the magnetic donut? napa trans filter? lucas oil? Im gonna go to GM and get one from them and new oil to it

Make sure the filter has the correct length tube.
Not too long ago a member got filter with a too short tube.

So what happened was that I made 2 rookie mistakes. 1 - I went off the manual and it suggested to use 5 quarts, but I had to use 9! 2 - I wasnt checking the oil on a even surface . But i appreciate your guy's input!
