4l60e blew rebuild or th350 swap?

Well my 4L60e blew up. Trying to decide what to do now. It is only making 400 flywheel. And I plan on maybe a shot gas way down the line. I would like cruise in the car too, so would my money be better spent it a 350 or rebuilding the 4l60e. Oh the car also has 4:10s

I am running a 4l60e from Alen (link is above) and my car run's 11.60's on motor and 10.30's on a 175 shot. I ran his 700r4 before the 4l60e and ran about the same times. Only reason I swapped to the 4l60e was because of the 411ecm swap.

Not everyone can build a 700r4/4l60e, even the well-known shops. Only trust the ones that have proven customers. Alen has guys in the high 9's with a 700r4.

If Alen builds it then 1-2 shift will be harsh. I have gotten used to it, but others may have an issue with it.

Yeah, most of the shops seem to charge around $1700-$2000 for a vary high performance built 4l60E with a warranty. But I'm thinking that's a serious overkill for my power level. Has anyone had any experiance with monster in the box kit or the pro built automatics kit?

Thats not bad really quotes I got for a stock rebuild for my Silverado were about in that range also.Unless you build up their weak spots and theres plenty the 700r/4l60e SUCK I know Ive been through 4 of them with a stock engine normal driving.

Pace Performance will sell you a GM unit with converter for $1700 or so

If it were up to me Id use a T400 in mine OD doent change mileage til over 56mph anyway.

I would stick with the 4l60e. I had a th350 with 3.73's. Great until about 70 mph, then it just screamed, even with taller tires. Gas mileage was horrible too. My brother in law has a pro built in his 500hp camaro, holds up great.

Im leaning towards the monster in the box kit, rated at 650hp even though I'm no where near that hp. Price is $875, plus the shop that did my trucks trans said just for labor is $300 so that seems like a good deal to me. And another route is my coworker said he did his, he just got the rebuild DVD. He said it was somewhat straight forward. So I might go that route, even though I always said I will never rebuild a auto trans again after my first 700r4 build.

The $875(monster in a box kit)is just for the parts. The total cost is $1175 because I would take the trans out drop it off the reinstall it myself. The probuilt kit is around $950 for the parts.

Re: 4l60e blew rebuild or th350 swap?

I don't know much about the 700R4 or the 4L60, but I do know the weak link in a th350 is the center support. It's only held in place with snap rings. The cases are prone to failure in this area due to the metal support "chucking" into the case. There is a "case saver" available that helps prevent this.

I'm a big th400 fan because of the bolt in center support. Plus there are some th400's, known as th475's, that have straight cut planetaries.
