700R4 transmission fluid question.

OK so I just got my 700R4 level 3 raptor transmission. And the is probably 2 quarts of reg transmission fluid in the pan but the rest is dry. am going to be using royal purple in it... Would it be smart to pop the pan off and drain what's in it or would it be OK to just put the new royal purple in it?

Thanks friends

I wouldn't worry about the 2 quarts in the pan.

Unless Royal Purple has made vast improvements in their transmission oil, I would not use it. I would use Amsoil if you want the best. It is a synthetic, and drain the oil that is in there now.

What is wrong with Royal Purple..? I have used this brand in everything but my transmission and love it with 0 problems.... I'm just curious.

I would drain it cause I'm picky like that.

Re: 700R4 transmission fluid question.

Just my opinion.....

Royal Purple is an unlicensed Dexron II/III equivalent. It meets (RP claims) a superseded spec and costs $15/qt (O'Reilly).

I'm assuming your desire to use RP is because it's a synthetic? You'd be much better off using a Dexron VI ATF (like Valvoline) which is a synthetic, a current GM spec, licensed by GM (meaning blenders have to meet certain performance requirements) and is half the price of RP.
