TV cable doesn't ratchet when WOT

I have a holley stealth ram backed by a rebuilt 700r4 and brand new tv cable from dealer and when setting the cable it doesn't ratchet. When the throttle gets forced to full throttle it makes a single pop and the slider barely moves. The cable is ran the shortest distance possible. The transmission feels like it's starting an 2nd gear and all the shifts feel to soon an the car seems to have no power. It engages all gears and locks converter. The cable has tension and it pulls smoothly and retracts back. Any help is appreciated. I have a pressure gauge on order.

You could drop the pan and set the cable so zero at adjustment end is zero at the throttle valve.

Update I put a pressure gauge on it last night and didnt seem to do anything.....no matter where I adjusted the black slider to the pressure never changed at idle..... I tried setting the slider based on instant pressure rise and that didnt occur until the slider was almost flush with the d tab. Leaving at this setting caused 2nd gear starts and mushy shifts

Disconnect the TV cable from the throttle lever. Start the engine and let it idle (best done warm).

Now pull the TV cable out and observe the line pressure. It should increase quite a bit as the cable is pulled out.

I don't have the pressure charts, but this should be done in each manual gear position to verify that the pressure is rising correctly.

RBob.

Is it a freshly built 700r4 thats going in for the first time after being rebuilt?

I just had a brand new tv cable do the same thing. I was able to set it same as the poster above(jmd), but without removing the pan. I felt for the tv plunger engagement, and set it just before engagement at closed throttle. I DO NOT recommend this unless you have researched the tv cable extensively. Cause a wrong adjustment can and will cause a toasty 700.

I have the same problem an taught it might be the bm shift kit I put in maybe one of the ball bearings or springs . My tv cable is the stock cable an iam running a Demon carb the cable is not kinked but even when you put on the tv cable it doest come out.

No the transmission has over 100 miles on it....the tv cable never adjusted like it did when it was tpi but these symptoms are new an occurred with two different tv cables. I tried all different ways and the only way to get instant rise was with the slider slid all the way back. Any other setting and it takes a good bit of travel before there is any rise in pressure.

does the cable retract back in by itself when you pull on it? if not, it could have fallen off of the hook where it goes in the pan.

If you got instant pressure rise once the throttle was moved IIRC thats your setting for the tv cable, as long as the geometry hasn't changed.

Correct me if I am wrong RBob.

Re: TV cable doesn't ratchet when WOT

Cable pulls out smoothly and retracts back as it should. Rbob that's what I thought as well but I had to slide it almost completely back to get instant pressure rise and when driven at that setting it starts in 2nd and stacks 3rd and OD. And I wouldn't think it would be a geometry issue since noone else seems to have ever had a problem with a stealth ram/700r4 combo

2 cars with identical engines, one knocks at 36° timing, the other doesnt. Each build is different even if its the same. That being said, is it a new or old TV cable?

Here is a quote from RBob on my turbo thread regarding the tv cable:

RBob.
Stupid question, is the tv cable on the correct stud on the throttle lever?
