Transmission still engaged even in neutral, help please

Hey guys I had taken my transmission off and tried to be build it my self, after the first time I was unable to get it, then I took it off again and took it to a transmission shop. Anyways I ended up picking it up when I threw it back on the drive shaft won't move freely and when I start it it wants to move is there any hint on why this is happening, I know I'm gonna have to take it off a third time, I'm just wondering if anybody has any input on the subject? Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm missing my car

Did you get the shift cable adjusted correct? It may be engaged in reverse. I believe the farther the lock nut is towards the motor would move it back

It's a t5, which I'm guessing doesn't have it? Correct?

Okay got you, could the shift forks be put in in gear when it was set in? Just a thought, caus is there a specific way to put that on? But I'll have to check that tomorrow, cause unfortunately it's raining here -.-

Its 27* here so I feel that. I read they are similar to the super ten truck transmissions in shifter function, I'd imagine that the shifter end fits into a cup in the rod. You'll see what I'm talking about when the shifter is unbolted. Can you hear the shift forks moving when you try to engage a gear? Or does it not go thru all the gears when trying to shift it around?

Yes sir that's exactly it, and Yes it does fit into a cup that I do remember, but no it didn't go through all the gears
When it was up in the air the tires started moving, so I was tried to put it into some gear to stop it or see what happens and nothing, at most it grinded then I stepped on the brake and it stalled out. I turned it on a again and pressed in the clutch then held the brake and the tires stopped

Def engaged. Try that first, if not you may have to pull it and find out what happened.

Okay, if I redo the shifter and that's not it and I take it off what should I be looking for? When the shift assembly was off I could move both gears into gear no problem, and suggestions?

Sadly past that I'm no help. That's the only thing I know about these transmissions. The shifter not sitting in the cup is familiar to me.

Re: Transmission still engaged even in neutral, help please

Okay can you give me any input on this, I took it back off and mocked up the shifter and slid the driveshaft in and it worked just fine, but once I try to set it back in to the bell housing the drive shaft stays stuck as if it's in gear? But yet I check on top and it in neutral and if I slid the tranny back out it moves freely lol any thought?

When you say that it moves freely when it is out are you saying that the input shaft and output shaft can move independently , or that you can spin the shaft easily. When the shifter is in neutral you should be able to turn the input without the output moving. If that doesn't happen something internally is locked up.

When I turn the input shaft the output turns as well, so that means it's internal?
Cause I'm holding the input and trying to turn the output and it won't move

That means your transmission is "in gear" and not in neutral.

Turn the input shaft...
Does the output shaft turn the same way? = Forward gear. Or the opposite direction? = reverse.

Turn the input shaft so the output shaft turns 1 full rotation.
How many full rotations of the input shaft did it take? 3, 2 1/4, 1 1/2, 1, 3/4? That will tell you which gear is selected.
