Locktight on B&M shifter handle

I'm sick of the handle spinning off at the absolute worst times, like when I'm trying to race or something. Anyway, I know it's recommended to use locktight on it, but won't that make it difficult to remove the handle when I need to take it off to fix something?

Haha..I've never seen this asked before and surprised, most of my friends complain about their t-handles always spinning.

I have a nut below the t-handle that I tighten up to the t-handle and then screw the t-handle down on the nut until they are squeezed togeather if you get what i'm saying. You have to lower and raise the nut and retighten the handle to get it into the right position.

Actually I've got the nut below the T-handle too. It seems to work for a few days, but then comes loose anyway. That's why I'm thinking of locktighting it. I suppose my other alternative would be to keep a wrench handy and tighten it up every other day.

They sell different stages of lock tite. I got the medium I guess it was, just takes a little more pressure than the usual amount you put on it to shift, but it will break loose.

I tried red lock tight but it only helped for a little while longer. This time I put the handle in position and tightened the jam nut with such force I was ready for the threads to strip clean off. I used a decent length 3/4 open end wrench for maximum leverage. The handle hasn't come loose since.

I used Loctite on my B&M in my 81 camaro. Actually, don't the installation instructions suggest using it?

Yeah, the directions do recommend it. What I'm worried about is how I'm gonna get the handle back off after I locktite it into place. I mean, knowing that shifter, something under the console is bound to break the minute I cement the handle into place.

if you use the medium strength Loctite in the red bottle it will work. You will be able to break it loose if you need to.

will the lock tight prevent corrosion of the aluminum threads?? I'm sure that the instructions recomende a light coating of grease for this reason. lock tight's good stuff but, I'd grease the threads then experiment with different "spacers" in side the handle piece to get it into the desired positon when it's tightened. don't let other people play with the shifter, they may mean well, but they will put unneccessary force on the handle and somehow turn it more tighter.....then you have to unscrew it and stuff more pieces of match books in there to keep it from twisting on too far!! I like the idea of drilling a 3/16" hole through the handle and threads and securing it with a counter-sunk allen head screw.....for that professional look!

I believe the locktite strength goes green, blue, red, purple from weak to strong. This is the liquid color, not the bottle. I've got a big bottle of blue locktite in a red bottle. The blue stuff is designed to be removable, the red stuff is supposed to be permanant, although depending on thread area covered you can usually break it free. I'd try using blue locktite, and be sure to get all of the threads coated.

I finally got tired of mine spinning and installed a ball instead of the T. Never been happier! Love the shifter!
