O/D not Working after new stall

I reciently Put in a new stall converter and ever since the 4th gear hasn't engaged. All the other gears work great. The linkage is right, the TV cable is right. The fluid is a good color. Could over/under filling the tranny just a little do this. Also its an 89 so it isn't electronic.
Anybody that could help would be a big assistance!

Well I'll answer cuz I had a guess to it, but you're not even talking about a Camaro or Firebird. So dont ask another question about your d@mn truck, this board is for 3rd gen F-bodies if ya havent noticed . So I'll guess an answer at this question, as if you were asking about an F-body that wouldnt go into OD with TC. With 700R4 transmissions, the car will downshift if you give it a good amount of gas. It will never stay in 4th(OD) gear, if you put a good amount like 3/4 throttle on it. Now, pushing the gas pedal, not only increases speed, but what? Thats right rpms. Now lets say that the stock TC would shift at 1000rpm, but in 4th gear the tranny will downshift if it hits 2500rpm (just theoretical). So say you have a aftermarket TC that has a speed of 3000rpm. That means the tranny and engine will engage at 3000 rpm at each gear, BUT since the tranny wont allow 3000rpm in 4th gear, it never goes into fourth, so it either downshifts or just burns up the TC, possibly making it hunt. I'm guessing at this question, I might be wrong, but who cares this board is for F-bodies not trucks!

Man, what lit the fire under your a$$?

He just asked a simple question, geez.

OH yeah, I should prolly have my IROC in my sig, but go ahead and FIRE AWAY! Sorry, all I have pictured is my 1st gen M-Body. But if you look closely you can see the IROC behind the van.

I have no problem answering questons about truck trannies since they are the same thing and the info could help an F-body owner. I would recheck the TV setting like this: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the 'D' shaped lock button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting (The black housing that the metal cable is in will move forward). Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the 'D' button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can (putting maximum tension on the metal cable) and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable casing so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

By the way, just how much stall do you have?

The stall is 2600
The tanny when put into 4th gear just feels like a nother nuetral but when half throttle or so is applied the gear catches but it is just drive and not over drive.

Maybe not, but I don't see the big deal about it. He's a car enthusiast. Heck, on the Street Racing board there are several Mustang owners. As long as they don't come off as a ***** I don't mind them posting, but hey, who am I to say who can and can't. I'm not a moderator.

From my experience, I have not seen a Mustang ask specifically about their car or tranny on this board. They usually just comment on things. But whatever I don't care anymore, just make sure no ricers try to start postin on this board. Atleast I gave a possible reason to what the problem might be, but like I said before whatever.

Just as transfixleo says, a 700R4 is a 700r4 is a 700R4. The problems that exist on one style of 700R4 are basically the same as on any other with some minor variation, they are still not being addressed/corrected. That is why we are here, to help/answer the questions/problems presented on 700R4/200R4 style of transmissions (which is the majority) that are asked/presented on this board.
