hi, i changed my speed cable because my needle went up and down suddenly, so i changed my speed cable. But now the needle goes up but does not indicate the right speed. So what is my problem other than my speed cable? Thank you

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: speedo

Has it EVER indicated the correct speed since you changed it to the 350/T-5 combo? What rear gears does it have in it?

Re: speedo

Does the car have cruise control? Does that have the regulator that looks somewhat like this? (screwed to the front of the driver's side strut tower)

The thing at the lower right with the wires that says things like "HOLD" and "ENGAGE"...

yes I have a speed regulator but which does not work, share against I do not have the connector that you show on the photo. to be on this connector is right next to the engine or under the dash

Re: speedo

The thing that the wires in the photo plug into, is the cruise control regulator. In addition to the wires that turn it on and off it has one cable that comes from the transmission, and one that goes to the speedo in the cluster. In the photo you can see the threads where one of them screws on: the cable itself is just barely out of view of the camera I guess.

The regulator contains a copper disc that the cable spins. It induces a current in another disc, much the same way as the speedo itself works. When the regulator fails, the discs rub together instead of the one spinning right close to the other, and all sorts of bad things happen. It usually makes the cables bind and spin erratically, which affects the speedo reading.

Yours is probably bad.

My cable coming directly from the transmission goes to the cluster. I imagine that my problem comes more from the cluster since the cable goes directly there and that it is new. I don't think I have this sensor because I haven't seen it anywhere. do you have any other photo of its location and cables.
