Help with ring gear markings

Hi,
Im dong my 2nd rear end ever... First time I didnt set up the gears, this time I am. I just want some extra eyes on this to see if im on the correct path here....

I have .0065 backlash at the moment. The paper that came with the Motive gear set says .007-.009. Im thinking i will be OK with where I am.
Do the markings look good?? Or do I need to bring the pinion in to get the contact a bit lower on the drive side?
Thanks!

Doesn't look to bad. Probably wouldn't hurt to move it a little deeper and maybe a tiny bit toward the inside of the tooth. When power is applied it will walk a little to the outside of the tooth. As for me I would probably try it as is.

Re: Help with ring gear markings

Thanks fullmonte77
I went ahead and moved the pinion in .003 (which helped bring it down on the tooth) and I think im going to go another .003.. Then recheck backlash and I think I will run with it!

Re: Help with ring gear markings

So in total I added .006 to my shims with .007 backlash in these shots. I may add .001-002 more shims and call it done to get the drive side marking a bit lower...( although I think im just being picky at this point). Let me know what you all think about the new pattern.

Yes it is a pain. I did mine a couple years ago when I put in a Torsen posi. Now I have to do it all again as I went to a 4th gen rear and need to put a new posi ant gears in. Not looking forward to it. First time I did it the rear was out of the car so that made things much easier.

Is that a ring gear spacer? Or just the pic?
IMO the pattern looks fine

Re: Help with ring gear markings

update.... I have about 15 mi on the new gear set with no noise at all... I have done 2 20 min trips with a full night of cool down (probably do a couple more like that to be safe then pick up the speed a bit and distance). So far so good. We shall see how it looks in 500 mi. Thanks for all the help!
