will this fix tranny mount?

ok, im tired of the constant vibrations while driving and the annyoing extreme vibrations at high RPMS at the shifter consol. i have replaced the rubber mount with a poly one. at first i DIDN"T put on the ("spacer")preload plate, and had vibrations, so when i changed the tranny fluid, i put the plate on. vibrations are a little better, but still really bad at high RPMS.

so heres what im thinking, goto autozone, pick up a rubber mount, drive around with that for a little while making sure nothing is screwed up after putting on the poly unit. then taking off the rubber one, placing it next to the poly on, and grab a hack saw and cutting the poly mount to the shape of the rubber one. that way its the same size.

any ideas\thoughts\opinions??

Put on one stock rubber mount on one side, and another poly mount on the other, get the best of both worlds... I dunno man, check to see your drivetrain is balance.

What brand is your poly tranny mount? You won't be able to cut an Energy Suspension mount, it's got metal internals. Just put on the rubber mount (they're what, 6 bucks?) and see if it's better. I don't think that's your problem. BTW, you HAVE to use the preload plate. It's not a spacer.

No you don't. I use the mount without the spacer and it works fine.

You can always try to get the rubber 1LE mount. Go to the store and ask for the mount for a 4th gen with a T-56. They'll probably have to order it but it's a compromise between vibration and strength.

I just got the Energy Suspension mount and took down to the dealer and had them pull a stock trani. mount, the energy susp. mount is 1/4" taller then the stock one and that was with the upper preload plate. What I did was go the a local electical motor shop and get 4 - .25" motor mount shims and put them between the crossmember and the frame. It works like a charm and I matain the manufactures requirement to use the preload plate.

You do have to use the plate. Here's an analogy. Way back in grade school, did you ever play the game where you take turns hitting each other's pencil and try to break it? Now, did you ever try to cheat by bending your pencil so it arc'd upwards and made it harder to break? This is sort of the same thing in the mount. The preload plate pushes against those two humps and accomplishes the same effect.

The ES poly mount has to use the pre-load plate. That is NOT a spacer and the mount will not funtion correctly without it. It was designed for those two humps to rest against it. I don't know about shimming the x-member, I put mine in and it works fine (after grinding the hole in the x-member bigger of course). I do know that you can't cut the mount though, it's not just a block of polyurathane, inside there is a safty interlock and other metal supports that steangthen the mount.

We went through this a few years ago. One of the guys from the old board e-mailed ES and they told him that the preload spacer wasn't necessary. If you're pushing big time power it's recommended, but for most applications its not necessary. I've got the spacer in and shimmed the crossmember down, seems to work pretty well.
