Clip that attaches the 700r4 tv cable to the QJ in my 1984 Trans AM 305 ci
Help
That clip broke today I guess because it just got old. I assume that I will have to replace that cable or.
Questions-
1) Anyone know the length of the original cable?
2) where to buy original style?
3) where can I buy a good correct used cable assembly?
4) Could I replace the old clip with a new/used one? How?
Mark the centre of the old clip & another mark on the cable a 2.5 inches down the cable. Record that distance.
Then cut off old clip 1.5 inches down the cable. Have to cut new clip longer & install with another clamp (like the metal ones that are used to connect electrical wires in an electrical box) so that the distance from the down cable mark to the centre to the replacement clip equals the recorded distance. Make sense?.

One of those days Gerry? I have had those too, where everything I touch breaks. But I just chalk it up to brittle GM plastic.
You could dummy the end up with a cable stop - but your best bet is the replace the entire cable.
B&M Camaro TH700R4 Transmission Throttle Valve Cable 70242 (84-93 Camaro) - Free Shipping
Or:
For 1982-1987 Chevrolet Camaro Throttle Cable 94147XQPW 1985 1983 1984 1986 | eBay
Brand Pioneer CablesNotes Carburetor Accelerator Cable -- Length: 30.75Part Number 94147XQPW
Edit for more information:
Looked at the GM Parts Manual - GM Part Number for 86-84 V8/Automatic is: 25515598

Rather than replacing the entire cable, why not just replace the broken plastic piece with one of these

Great idea.I found the instructions for installations. I ordered the clip from Amazon.ca. Will arrive on/or about Jan 24.
Thanks for the info
The clip arrived a couple days ago. I did a test fit & not. I had to file the clip edges & the hole to make larger. Fits now. Tkx

On Rockauto, I found ATPY228 to be a correct replacement..

I used the one I linked to without needing to remove the anchor, but, if the rock auto piece works for ya, all well & good.

No, the hole is big enough that you stick the anchor through and then when you move the cable the right way the cable/anchor are held in place. It ain't easy to describe but it kinda reminds me of how a bicycle's brake cable attaches.

The replacement clip arrived & I installed it yesterday. I did, however, have to do two mods. I had to enlarge the hole just a whisker to pass over the **** on the shaft & file the tapered edges as they were too tight to pass over the shaft. May have to adjust the tvr cable but will have to wait until the weather improves a lot.
