dissapointed with my car...

well i went to the drag strip friday... basicly to make a long story short, the track was really slick and i couldn't get my car hooked off the line for anything. my 60 ft times sucked, it spun most of the way to the mark(60ft) . i was expecting 17's flat or a little faster. best time i could turn was a 17.5, last year at a different track i turned 17.4's bone stock. then again the conditions wern't ideal, it was really humid, i guess i shouldn't quote these times since it was a different track, but i tried everything to try to get it hooked, from having one of my friends ride in the back, to heating the sh** out of my tires

oh well any traction advice from the 5 speed guys would be appreciated, i'm gonna go try again this fri.

ps. still smoked alot of riceburners, pretty bad when i'm spinnin all the way through 1'st and a little through 2nd and i'm still takin these high performance machines, lol!!

Don't heat street tires. That's a common mistake. Heating street tires gives you worse traction.

ALL THOSE TIPS ONE HUNDRED CORRECT!
AND
Make sure you bring AIR TANK!
AND keep spare tire over right back wheel.
Releasing front sway allows quick weight transfer as restrictor is removed.
Just undo sway bar at the a arm link.

Sounds like you should lower your launch time, then, maybe your tires will get a chance to grip, and your 1/4 mile time should drop. I doubt anyone dumps the clutch at 3 grand at the tree...

i had my back seat out , 1/4 tank of gas and i took my spare out, now that i think of this mabye i shouldn't have taken the tire and jack out. i'm goin up this w/e again i'll try it w/ more gas, the jack and spare in, lower psi, and un doing the front sway bar.

Re: dissapointed with my car...

The back seat is so light; you sure you want to bother? 100 lbs = 0.1 s in the 1/4 ... I don't think all of the seats put together is 100 lbs.

Fresh motor oil
BAG OF ICE FOR THE INTAKE MANIOLD (colder the better more HP & lower ET!!)
Place tire in there
Good amount of gas
Undo sway bar AT TRACK at A arms, ONLY!!
UNDO the BOLTS that hold the bar to arms, that should definetly help.

absolutely correct
my father and I took my 74 Nova with a manual tranny to the track when I was a Teenager .
He would drop it in the bleach box and smoke the tires.
I would just line up on the pad without the bleach box.
I would turn at least 3 tenths faster times.

I would just build a small bracket to keep things from sliding off but I would use a couple of hunks of dryice before a bag of regular ice.

Hot ticket for the ice?
Gel Paks for sore backs that mold to body
About 5" x 12"
Wrap them in a t shirt.
Having a sore back, that's what I'd use.

Instead of BUYING ICE
Buy these gel packs.
I use mine for my back injuries.
Can also work under the hood at the strip. Bring in ice cooler to keep "cold!"
