car keeps dieing!!!!!!!
Please help my car keeps dying, it'll run ok for a while ,but then sometimes it'll just want to die, for onr thing it idles really low and I have to put it in nuetral and keep revving the engine to keep it running! Its an auto so you know how much of a pain that is. my mechanic can't find anything wrong with it so tonihgt i am taking it to the chevy dealer.
Sounds like the same problem a couple of us are having... Do the RPM's just drop when you come to a stop and then it dies? or does it mostly just stumble? In my case I'm guessing its either the Torque converter clutch malfunctioning or the IAC malfunctioning...

Does it run bad while you're cruising along or just when coming to a stop, already stopped, or accelerating?
I used to have an V-6 Camaro that had that problem. For mine the injectors were getting dirty...clean 'em out or try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. It will only cost you a couple of bucks and it took care of the problem for me.
I have the same prob with my 89. I have done the plugs, cap, rotor, wires and am looking next to the egr and O2 sensor. mine will run okay cold, but as it warms up it needs throttle at the stop to stay running. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I had the same problem once when I stupidly decided to let a mechanic do my timing and oil change ( I was feeling lazy and did not have a timing gun) Big mistake as far as timing goes, the guyI guess did not disconnect the est cable and did the timing by ear. When I drove off I died as soon as I hit the first light, I figured maybe it needs a little getting used to. Nope same thing I went to sears brought a timing gun looked at what the timing was set a found it was set a 30* yikes I lowered it to 10 and now it works like a charm.

Hey; maybe we should forget the group purchase on nitrous/suspension, and go for a group purchase on timing guns!

85maro, 9 times out of 10, all these problems are tuneup related, so check out the message that loomdog reposted for me. Also, check for exhaust leaks.
IMHO
If the stumbling occurs at idle or when you decelerate to a stop there are two common causes.
1. Believe it or not the gas cap is not on properly (try this first it doesn't cost anything.)
2. the throtle body is badly coked. (remove boot off of front of TBody and spray with throtle body cleaner. reach in with a rag on a stick or something and clean everything you can then run the engine and spray the rest of the can down the throtle body.)
If the stubling occurs at 2000 to 3000 rpm under load I would check the spark plugs first for fowling.
