266miles/16 gallon tank = 16.625 gallons. Not too bad. This is approximate because the tank is not fully empty

Typical driving, my car gets about 300 miles out of a tank of gas. My tank will only hold about 14 gallons, so that is about 21 MPG. Of course, mine is fuel injected, and I live in the country. I wouldn't expect that out of a carbureted engine. What rear gears do you have? I would think that any 2.8 car should get over 20 MPG on the highway, and 17 or 18 typically. Sounds like you aren't too far off, though.

I think they are about 60 litres. My 83 gas gauge goes up to 16 gallons/60litres and that is the "full" mark. They're probably a little more than that (but not much)

For some reason ( I forget right now) - A car's best speed for gas milage depends on the number of cylinders - a 4 banger its like 45 to 55 mph, a V8 is like 55 to 65. Our engines, it should be in between. I'm getting 17 to 18 mpg on a fresh engine/ carb. /no cat.

i thought our stock mpg. were 17 city/21hwy or sumthin' like that.

either way, i'm getting nowhere near that!

170 miles to the tank, 200 if i do a bit of freeway driving, ACK!

just changed my fuel filter and pump (ugh) should i work on ignition mods next or what?

My car came with 3.23 gears. I have found that in overdrive, my car doesn't care too much what speed you run, as long as you use the cruise control. I can go 70 MPH on the interstate, or kick it up to 80, and only see about 1 MPG difference. When I was in college, I measured mine every time I came home and went back. I was about 150 miles from school to home, and would use about 5 to 5.5 gallons of gas getting there.

Question: did the 2.8 cars have bigger fuel tanks than the 3.1 cars? I assumed they would all be the same size. I have never been able to put more than about 13.5 gallons in mine, and I would swear that my owner's manual says that the tank size is only about 14 gallons. I wish I had a tank that was a couple of gallons larger.

I get killed, too, around town. I have the mileage down of my NJ-to-VA-Beach trip, I should work out the figures and post them there.

Wayne,

[QUOTE]i can tell you that I drive to school which is 60 miles away , round trip 120 ...I gas up every two and half days so I get 300 miles to a tank.{/QUOTE]

Damm every 2 and 1/2 days??? I drive 88 miles one way (170 round trip) to work every day and I fill up about 3 - 3 and 1/2 days depending on traffic. All though by the 3rd and 1/2 day it does get a bit scary. I be at a stop light saying to my self "come on baby you can make it to the gas station!!!!!" One time I was comming off of a steep hill and ran out of gas. the car coasted for 5 blocks to the nearest gas station. Close call!!!

running the A/C kills it too, I get about 20 with city driving (combo of blvds and freeways) and 30 on the highway running at 70 but not any high, all with out A/C, if I run the A/C it will drop 3 mpg in the city and 5 on the high way. The tank holds 15.5 Gallons plus the filler neck if your like me and you like to top off.

Best I ever did was 30 mpg on a 200 mi round trip 90%freeway. Average speed was 75mph I think. After 200 mi the gauge was halfway between 3/4 and full. Usually averaged 300 mi to a tank back then.

All the driving now though is up and down hills, city, or autobahn so I'm always sucking gas. Still manage about 250mi to a tank, but I haven't gave it a really good test since the pulley install, should go up a little more.

yeah, it's pretty fun cruising at 120 now and then. Even though I usually only go that fast on gradual hill a little ways from here, it was still easier than the last time I tried thanks to the air intake and pulley. I probably could've reached 130, but then I had to slow down because of traffic. That and I don't like pushing the engine too much cuz I still need to do my timing chain. After the chain gets done I'll see what it'll do on flat ground.
