Jumpy Tach
Jumpy Tach
Ok, here's the deal. Every time I stop while in drive, my tach is jumpy and the car has a bit of a rough idle. Sounds like it wants to stall, but hasn't yet. Then as soon as I am on the gas, things seem kosher, but it still jumps a little.
What's this sound like? Thanks!

is that really the problem? because that sounds exactly like what mine is doing, but i know my battery and alternator are fine. i dont think it is like your prob HUNTER C, because ours is not just the tach jumping inaccuratley...the rpms are actually jumping
Well, mine does seem to be more of just a tach problem and not an RPM problem. Because other than the crappy idle at a stop, it seems to run ok when on the gas, just the tach jumps a little, but I don't feel the RPM's changing.
Well, I replaced the battery and checked out the alternator. Battery is good, and the alternator puts out 14.4 volts. So it's not that.
So ignition module eh? Always something. I'll try to narrow it down before I jump into anything.

Your problem isn't the module, but the PICK UP COIL in the distributor. The jumping in the tach is the coil going to ground and not signaling the module which runs your tach and main coil. Comman problem on Camaros and the easyiest to fix but you have to take apart the whole distributor to slide off the old one and slide on the new one. Don't delay because if your having a ruff idle it's getting bad, the jumpy tach is just the begining. When the pick up coil finally goes bad the car won't run.
