Trans mount horror

Ok, I got the mount off. It wasn't even broken.
It turns out that it was just missing the two bolts that hold it to the tranny were missing. What length are they, or do any chain auto stores sell them, where can I get them, etc etc...

I bought the ES mount, since I already got it I'm gonna put it on. But I need these bolts bad...

And I finally put on my Ws6 sway bar while it was on the ramps...I'll Let you know how that went later.

The poly mount is threaded...just run down to the hardware store with the mount and get you some grade 8 bolts that are about an inch long. If I remember, the mount comes with washers...othwise get those two. It doesnt hurt to use some loctite on the threads to prevent the problem in the future.

They are metric(prob 87 and newer atleast), you will have to go to an automotive store. Or I did anyway. Try like 8-1.00 or 8-1.25 thread wise, and about 1 to 1.25" long.

Remember the bolts are metric when you try to size them. Also, be careful of bolts at Home Depot... chances are they won't be automotive grade. Automotive grade is grade 8 for SAE, and 10.9 for metric. All the bolts I've seen at Home Depot are either Grade 5 or Grade 8.8 (metric), and 8.8 isn't as strong as 10.9.

Pep Boys has large bins of bolts & nuts that are automotive grade; one problem though, if your local store is like mine, bolts will be everywhere. I have to drive 30 mins away to find a store that's got orderly bins. They sell bolts in plastic .. uh.. plastic hanging things.. you know, a prepackaged bolt, but they're usually $3/bolt when the bins are $0.40/bolt.

No problems as of yet.

They were the Zinc ones.
Should I look for some Auto ones?

got the bolts...could have been a little shorter, but they worked.
Made the mistake of getting 8.8, but we'll see what happens.

Between fixing that and putting on the WS6 sway bar, my car had doubled its score in the 'fun to drive' category. And it was already real fun.

Gotta love those supposed '15 mph' curves where you can really go 45 or 50...almost crapped my pants a couple times.

I know they were 1.5 in long, but thats all I can remember,

1.25 long would have been a lot better.

Someone on here told me I needed to do some kinda modification on mine. I didn't half to except I finger installed all the bolts, wiggiling the tranny, then tightend all of them down. IF there was any mod that "needed" to be done that I saw would be to make the hole in the crossmember a hair bigger, like 1/16" wider. That bolt was a little stiff to get in their, but it did.

So, after breaking two of the stock mounts (the little fluid filled dount looking things) I changed over to the poly mount. All you have to do is go down to your local pick and pull yard and get the crossmemeber, the rest bolts right up. Hope that helps a bit.

The grade 8 bolts that TomP was referring to are not necessary on most things. The trans mount would be fine with grade 3 bolts. The grade deals with the hardness and the strength. Yeah, more strength is good, but there is always a trade off. More strength usually means that the bolts are more brittle than the lower grade ones. Anyway, there are some applications where I would only use the high grade bolts, but the trans mount isn't one of them. One place I always use hardened bolts is for the exhaust manifolds. They won't corrode and change size nearly as fast, and the heat treatment helps them handle the temps better.

Also, the loctite will not only keep the bolts from vibrating out, they will keep the threads from rusting up and letting the bolt stick. You will be able to remove them when you need to in the future without problem. Just trying to be of service.
