On my 85 -- I buy the Conrad cap and rotor kit at AutoZone for about $20. I have heard that Conrad is the "budget division" of MSD but I'm not sure. Anyways, the cap and rotor do have brass inserts and seem to be of good quality.

83 -- Had an Accel on there until summer. The car needed an interim tune up so I replace the o2 sensor and the ignition module died. So went to AutoZone and traded it in. While removing it, I saw A LOT of carbon on the Accell stuff. Needing a quick cheap fix, I grabbed a Wells cap and rotor (no Conrad available), and threw on an older set of wires from the GTO. Been driving it that way since.

86 -- Cap that was on the car had a large crack so I threw on a Wells replacement. Car is not tagged (yet). After a few thousand miles, I might change it.

I knew I was forgetting a brand , WELLS !!!! How can I forget when I have one on my car now ??? I had a bluestreak , but had to take it off to check it and had to tear it to pieces getting it off because one of the screws holding it down was stripped ! So I put an extra WELLS tha was still in good shape back on !

I bought the Blue Streak because it was one of my only choices at the local parts stores, and it was the only blue one...I wanted blue.... Works fine for me! But it's only been on for a few months...

Delco for me..........mostly because I can get Delco parts cheaper than others, but also because I regularly see aftermarket parts that flat out SUCK. However, Delco Durastop brake pads were the worst pieces of $hit I ever put on my car. Threw some $30 Raybestos' on there and no more "squeaky-squeaky".

I'll say; I could've used an AC/Delco brass cap after http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen/burnt-cap.html happened! Right now I'm back on Accel; wanted to try the Borg Warner one but none of the local parts monkies had any in stock, so I just got another Accel cap/rotor kit from Summit.

Brass

I really don't look for a brand name, but I do look for the brass parts, I've had much better luck with them... they seem a bit more durable to me.

no matter which brand you get, this will make you feel better about your purchase:

95 Blazer distributor cap w/wires coming out the sides (cap-a-dapt style) $25 for Wells.

Rotor for said cap $10 Wells.

I've replaced the rotor & took a dremel w/wire brush to the cap. makes getting parts for the bird not so "painful"
