I going to have to say bye to my 2.8l
I am planning on buying a 92 Z28. I have too much body work and paint, interior work, suspension, and engine work to do on my 2.8l. It would take me 6k to get at where I want it to be. For 6k I can have a killer Z and put some rims and headers on.
I will keep my 2.8l until I can find a straight bodied 92. Then I will transfer from the 2.8l the Accel 300+ ignition, ignition module, GTA wheels, BMR sway bar, KYB struts, Kenwood CD player, Pioneer speakers, Silicon hoses, and some other things, which means the car will be junked because I will have scavenged some parts.
If my 2.8l had a perfectly straight body and interior, I would keep it. Time for me to move onto something a bit faster. It will be so nice to actually look in a catalog and find millions of parts for the engine.
When I do get my Z, I won't be coming to this board and telling you guys to just get a V8 or swap one in. I am going to miss my 2.8l, but I don't want to spend all that money and time into the body work, because I hate hard work. This time, since I know way more about cars than I did when I first bought my car, this gives me the oppertunity to get what I really want.
I hope it goes well for you guys. I am still waiting to see a supercharged or turbocharged 2.8l in an F-body though.

The 92 Z28's are sweet cars. I can't blame anyone on this board for wanting to move on. The 2.8 is great for a first F-body, but if you have any extra cash you want to put into aftermarket, its almost impossible to find parts.
I hope to own a Z some day as well. But I don't have too much extra money, so I have no real need for the aftermarket just yet. So anothe 2.8 is okay with me.
I understand the body work. When I go looking at cars, I search for a straight body, with minimal holes and rust. I would rather have to do an engine transplant or tranny swap, then have to deal with a body that needs to be completely rebuilt.
Good luck with the Z28, hope you'll drop by, maybe show us some time slips
As soon as you get your Z, I expect pics too.

If you're seriously looking for a 91-92 Z28, this is the best deal I've seen in a LONG time. His price started alot higher, but the market right now is VERY slow, especially in cold states.

Well, I don't want to talk about Z28s too much on this V6 board, but it has to be a 91-92 Z28, and auto. The colors I am looking for are Gunmetal, Artic white, Maui Blue, Black so far.

LOL, I saw your car in your sig and that was the one. Wisconsin is kind of far away from Carbondale, IL.
This may sound funny but my favorite color is blue, but I don't want a blue car - at least not that shade. Actually, If the paint and body work is near perfect or close to it, The color won't matter much, I will just learn to like it.

Auto?? Wimp.
Unless someone else has to drive the car too...or you're constant stop-and-go traffic, then it's understandable. I can't drive stick worth a ****...I can make then move and get through all the gears just fine, but I can't RACE them yet..I don't keep the rpms up between shifts and have missed second a time or two..don't ask me how the hell I did that, I don't know..think the shifter got stuck in the gate. BUT I want to learn!! Wish my new car was a stick! Anything but the POS worst automatic ever built...

I like autos. The clutchless shift is my favorite because it likes having an auto and a manuel at the same time, but thirdgens don't have that so I will just go with an auto. Most of my driving will be in the city anyways.
I would want to get a T-top Z because I would like to have some open air motoring in the summer. If the tops leak, I will just get new weatherstripping. It won't bother me much.
Until I buy the Z, I will be driving the 2.8l. The only money going into it will be the occassional oil change, insurance, and gas until I find a Z I really like.

Despite all the other stuff, good luck with the Z man..and be careful with it! Don't be an idiot like me and beat on the car as soon as you get it because you're so excited with the extra power.

HAVE FUN! I know I will experience a significant gain in power, but I will defianately not abuse it. I wouldn't have anything to prove because the car is already quick so I will drive 5 mph above the speed limit with the occassional run just for fun. I can't wait.

Trust me, there's nothing like putting your foot down for the first time in a Z28. When I picked up my 86 IROC, it was such a thrill to pull on the highway, put my foot in it and watch how quickly that needle went around.

I was really looking forward to doing a 3.4l swap, but the body just needed to much body work. I don't really want to give up my 2.8l, but right now its just a fast burning money pit because I barely get anything out of the money I put into it. A 92 Z28 with a nice body is a better choice for me it will cost me far less in both the short and long run to own and build than to have try and rebuild the 2.8l.
I think I will even take the track bar, A arms and whatever pieces I can from the 2.8l that will work on the 92 and have those parts sanded, cleaned, and powder coated so I can put them on the Z.
I will not have the 2.8l once I get the Z, but at least parts of my car will become a part of the Z so I will always remeber my first car the 2.8l Firebird.
I have about 4k that I could spend on a decent one, but I am going to wait until I get situated next fall before I make the the purchase of mine. This should give me plenty of time to find one that I think is perfect. I didn't know much about cars when I got my first car, which was my first mistake, now I have the oppertunity to get something that is much better so I am not going to blow this oppertunity.
That's all I am going to say about getting a 92 Z28 on this thread. I won't mention it unless I have found and purchased. Just wanted to let you guys know what my plans were and why, although you probably don't care, lol...
