Anyone ever beaten a 305tbi

I know this should be in the street racing board, but i need to get all the v6 people together to back me up. So basically if you have beaten a 305 tbi, i wanna hear your story.

I have beaten 2 so far(only raced 2) and the car was in good tune with similar mileage to mine.

Thanks guys, i am trying to prove a point.

I beat a 92 firebird with a 305 just about every other morning on my way to work. It goes either way but I think the score is 5-3 in my favor now. I tell him I have a 305 so he doesn't get butthurt though. As far as I can tell, his car is in REALLY good shape on the outside so I would assume his engine would be but you never know. It's a damn close race though! His is an auto and mines a manual, the only thing I have is a drop in k&n and a dynomax catback. I have no idea what he has but I'd assume not much.

The reason i posted is this is because i happen to beat one 2 out of 3 times saturday night. Once from a roll, and once from a dead stop.

I posted this in the street racing forum, and the 305 guys got a little bent out of shape. Saying the car was in bad shape if i won.

It was my uncles car, i know what kind of shape it was in, it's bone stock, but so am i.

Check out the thread titled 3.1 vs. 305tbi

Thanks for the reply

I have a 305TBI---I'd like to race a V6 to see for myself. I think I could whup an auto V6 for sure but a 5 speed maybe not. My car has done a 16.5 @ 2200ft and is all stock---really lazy motor but has a little torque

I've beaten 3
the first one i beat was back with my 2.8L at top speed... he couldn't pass me...

the second one was at a roll... i won yet again...

third one was at a dead stop... took him clean...

i should be doing low 16s..
like 16.2

Doesn't mean that they're slow... it just means they can't talk crap about us... just as much as we can't talk crap about them...
i have yet to lose to one... but it still is v8

A 305 TBI/ auto 2.73--all stock

Last race I had I got beat by a Dodge Dakota ext cab 4X4 (4.7L) we only raced up to 80km though--I am pretty sure to 180 I could take him--when the brick like areodynamics of this truck will slow him down)

yea trucks are crap... haven't lost to one yet...
i've raced a silverado v6... several times... over like 20 times... we spent the night racing each other....
i beat him most of the time... sometimes he peddeled before me and blocked me...
i never had to block cuz whenever i got ahead... i was ahead... that was back with the 2.8

i raced a 350 with the 2.8 dead even at like 100

i raced some other truck... i was starting to gain(we were even) and i had to slow down...

race a 6
but becareful its possible you can lose... just as much as you can win...

Yeah i mentioned in my post in the street racing forum, that i assume driver error could result in my winning.

I was just curious if other people have had the same results.

Thanks for replying guys

I don't know about autos, but if you can't drive a stick, that'll kill your speed in a manual.

I had a friend in college with an 89 RS camaro 305 TBI automatic. It had a 2.73 geared open diff rear end. He had a catback exhaust, and so did I. He and I could run about dead even in our two automatic cars. Of course, just changing the gears in his would have meant that he would have beaten me pretty good. The 305 TBI in 1992 was 170 HP, while the 3.1 liter was 140. I attribute the similarities in performance to the reduced weight of the V6, and the really tall 2.73 gears.

Just so you know, this without the nitrous!

lol!...
umm.. yea seriously the driver makes the biggest difference in most races...
at least that i've notice
i screwed up one race nasty... i lost to a 4 cyl buick back with my 2.8...
i launched the worst i ever launced...
he had a decent... i caught up with my power... but the race finished before i can pass him... that suxx... i lost by nothing, and a bad launch... ugh... its soOo embarrasing losing to a 4 cyl tbi

so trust me... driver means everything...
unless its me going up against a Z06 like i have before... and then they have room for error...
that race was hilarious... we were off roll...
he tapped on the peddle repeatedly... and kept pace with no problem... its not just that he wasn't trying... he prolly was just on 5 gear at like 30 mph and still had no problem... lol...
my poor v6... taken advantage of with no vasoline to spare

ive beaten a couple of them....

most of the time with a good driver it goes like
this....
we start at the light ....the TBI jumps ahead...
but just after that...i overtake him..

i think the jump is due to the torque they have
but dont have the high end grunt...

2.73 gears suck too...real bad...my roommate
has them in his 92 TPI transam...he is not a very good
driver...he got beaten by a 2 door 88 acura legend (4.11 FWD stick)
(its a pretty nice car) and ive beaten the acura legend...

i ran a 15.9 in the 1/4 last time i ran...ill see my
new times this year...

I've never really raced a 305 TBI, but I was behind one once that was trying to show off and I was almost keeping up, but I never got full pedal. I could've kept up or passed had I I think. His car was burning oil, and an automatic...I had a 3.1 auto with a little ignition and a little intake....that was before the exhaust. I raced a friend's auto 2.8 with a Flowmaster exhaust back when I was bone stock and slaughtered him. He couldn't believe me. Yes, there is a big difference between a 2.8 and 3.1

Oh yeah..the horsepower difference isnt much...it's the torque. And the fact that the 3.1 is a stroker so the rpms are lower in the powerband. Makes it more useable power in the coveted stoplight-to-stoplight runs.

How would your car when it was stock--running the 17.0 beat mine?

I ran a 16.5 at Edmonton (2200ft elevation at Bud Park)---running at sea level would be a few tenths faster.

In any case I want to track down some one with one and actaully race.

my car when i bought ran a 17.08 yes it would lose to a 3.1 V6 5 speed car cause i lost to a 94 3.4 Automatic Firebird

my car has now ran a 15.28@90mph with a TBI 305 stock TBI 305s are slow

my 1985 2.8 V6 Automatic Sport Coupe Camaro ran 17.2-17.3s all night long with Dynomax Exhaust,K&N Filters and Accel Plug wires thats only 2 tenths slower than what my car ran stock

Okay you lost me
your car would lose to itself??? But a 3.4L auto beat a your car??? And therefore mine???

Or did you mean my car? I ran a 16.5@2200ft----clearly beats your 17.0 (remeber I am talking stock)

Yes I know my car is slow---just not sure if it's V6 slow.I had an 86 auto V6 andit sure felt like a dog but I never raced it.

Maybe rewrite your post--puncuation is a great thing and too often ignored.

Hehe.... My friend has an old Suzuki FA50 moped...he took a spare 'exhaust system' from his other FA50 that got thrown out...cut the muffler section off, and welded a lawnmower muffler onto it. Now it sounds like a Civic...it's hilarious. And I'm not kidding! I was in the bathroom once, and I heard it and thought "damn ***** Civics...", then I noticed it wasn't shifting...."Ohhh, that's not a Civic, that's Howard!"
Damn was that funny......
He tried to race a r!ced out Accord or something once. He revved at him...and supposedly, the r!ce idiot revved back, and took off down the street showing off....TO A MOPED.....

Driver plays a big part, also remember some people like myself will race you hard up to the speed limit or so but don't want to get a ticket either. Tourque is what the 305 has on us, HP is balanced out by the weight of a v6 verse a 305, As far as a v6 beating a 350 NO WAY!!!!!!!! Either the driver missed all the shifts or he wasn't racing or he had 4 dead cylinders.....

Gtech=riced out honda junk they don't work and are a waste of money in my opinion

3.1 V6=140 horsepower
TBI 305=170 horsepower

thats only 30 horse difference

3.1 V6 torque=180 foot pounds
TBI 305 Torque=240 foot pounds

yes the torque from the TBI motor is a lot greater than the 3.1

BUT.........3.1=less weight
gear ratio for a 3.1 and 2.8=3.42
gear ratio for a TBI car=2.73

BIG Difference
thats the reason for TBI cars being slugs from the factory and not just L03s have this problem LG4s experience pretty much the same amount of power its the 2.73 gears that are a waste

i got a good deal for the g-tech gonna take it to the track see if its as good as they say. Also how much weight difference is there between the 305 and the 3.1? I know my car isnt the fastest but its faster than a 18.63 but not as fast as my old mans nova before the build up 15.2 stock 2 barrel. But do you think the 3.1 will give a good fight stock for stock against the tbi with the same driver and same weather conditions i know that there are some slow tbi's but does the v-6 run good due to the gear ratio? Call me crazy but i think the tbi will win everytime stock for stock i guess im old for the theory no replacement for deplacement but im gonna have to stick to the tbi 305 sorry.

hahaha v6

hey guys

sorry to bust the bubble but i'm not impressed by a 2.8-3.1 maro

they are great as daily drivers not performace. My roomate has a 86 SC 2.8 auto, last year the motor blew. So he had the motor built 30 over pistons, small cam from wolverine, a hypertech chip
160 stat with a flow master exhaust.

well he drove it until break in was done then hammered it and swore up and down he could take me lol so i told him to get some

my car is a lo3 tbi with k/n with a gutted cat other wise stock.

we raced on the kick he got me cause of me spinning but after i gain traction i said bye bye

then we proceeded to do a 20 roll bad mistake i killed him

so guys get some if you would like show me a stock 2.8-31

got torque @ 2k baby all 255 ft/lbs

I'm still mostly stock... I mean, no aftermarket parts on my 2.8 I'll race ya

Actually, it's the 3.1/T5 combo that will outrun a TBI 305.
