Has anyone used 4thgen accessories on 3rdgen?
Has anyone used 4thgen accessories on 3rdgen?
I'd like to use the 4thgen 3.4 serpentine belt setup on my 85 when I put in the 3.4. Has anyone tried this?
I reckon the 4thgen has a better alternator, which would be cool to have, but mostly I just like the brackets and serpentine. The 2.8 has one serpentine and one V belt.
thanks

hmmm........ Took a quick look. AC compressor may be different. The AC in the 85 works, so if it's different I won't mess with it now.
But I would like to do this sometime if possible.

When one does an engine swap, it is custom, so ya can do anything ya want.
That said.
I did my initial swap as the dummy system.
I used what originally worked. Swapped over to the 3.4 mill.
That does require to do what I suggested in my thread. Use original timing cover, etc.
PLUS
The alternator.
Ask me about overpowering things in the car due to alternator spikes. Keep the original Alternator as teh cars system is designed for that output (try saying fried ICM perhaps. I fried 6 ICMs!)
That said, if ya can figure it out adapting the pulley set up, let us know.
Even on my Blazer, I kept the old pulley set up. Again, keep it simple.
What I wrote is pretty much what it eventualy boils down to.
Spend the exrta effort time on upgrading or rebuilding original 1985 stuff, to perform like day one.
What ya truly modify is the original "Y" pipe. Use the 1995 "Y" pipe & mold to fit the 1985 chassis. I still have mine & will be modifying mine shortly. I want the extra HP benefits for the money spent. I have used the 1995 issued AC Delco CC on my 1985 car. Fit perfectly, operates proper, too. Will be sure when I pass smog, shortly.
Enjoy the research!

no A/C because:
a) the compresor was damged when I got it,
&
b) WOuld have to get new or custom lines since the location is different. mabe yo could splice/connect the 3.4 lines to the firewall?

if I still had the compressor, I could tell for sure, but looks like it might be close.
edit: Dale could've answered this for us if he put his 3.4 in the proper vehicle

The Ac compressor fit fine in my truck in its stock 3.4l form, very close though.
While doing the swap, I found the camaro uses a wider frame rail system then my s10, so it just might fit.
I still do not have my ac plumbing done. I do know that the hose end is diff diameter then the one on the aluminum canister thingie. I am going to have to find a shop that does full custom work.

I loked at a 93 camaro this weekend, the a/c compressor is small, the bracket tha holds it is abot 50% of the diameter. yes it will be close, but I belive it will fit.
