I've run into a lil snag, I have to switch an 84 electically carburated V6 into EFI, the snag I've run into now is the timing cover. the 84 is a non-goodwrench engine and the 87 engine appears to have a goodwrench pan. are there any 87s that I can get a timing cover from or a place I can buy an aftermarket one. only reason I need to change the timing cover is because the water pump impeller channels run opposite of what I already have.

are your water pump runners like this, or reversed?

Right now they run like in the picture, I need them to run opposite of that. I need a timing cover where the front 2 bolts of the oil pan go into the timing cover. I'd send pictures, but my scanner doesn't work.

well, the 3.4 has the runners opposite as the pic, a mirror image, but the front two bolts of the erl pan go into the block, not timing cover.

I thought they all used the same pumps, 80 (Citation) to '89. Oops.

Oh hell nevermind, '87-'92 must have different rotation due to the serpentine belt system, right?

well, on the 85, looking at the engine from the front back, waterpump rotated clockwise. On the stock 3.4 engines, it rotates counter clockwise, as the belt runs inderneath the pulley.

You seek a timing chain cover for the 1985 & earlier 60* engines.
You can find them on S-Series & the F Bodies
Those t covers have the two bolts on bottom of cover that ya seek.
IF ya score a used one be sure to check water passages for water aging damage.

of course this comes about a week after I get rid of the 2.8 block w/timing cover on it

so does this mean that the 85 TBI have a serpentine belt system and the same block as an 84?

Yeah, It's designed to look exactly like it was as a 1985 S-series 2.8, for CA smog purposes.
Notice the carb.
1985 F body is the MPFI, a first year, PVC hose routing one year design.
I have a spare t cover, yet water passage is aged, which is why it's a spare or decoration, now!

basically, is there an 85 with a serpentine system? when was TBI used? my 84 didn't have it. and did the TBIs use a serpentine system? If so, did they have the same block as the 84?

There was NEVER a TBI F Body.
There IS S-Series 1986-to sometime in 90's, 60* (2.8 I believe) with a TBI.
I am unable to offer an answer on the serpintine belt set up.

I've seen 85s and 86s with 2.8 and TBI. Anyway, doing some rudimentary digging through an autozone computer revealed there's only 1 timing cover gasket offered for 85 which is the same pn as in 84, and it also said there were 85s with v belts and with serpentine belts so I guess I have my work cut out for me. If I can ever get my scanner working right I'll go more into the TBI thing, but here in FL there are many and many people have problems with them.

ok, a guy at a junkyard here in orlando helped me out. turns out as long as I change the oil pan with the timing cover they'll both fit perfectly and as long as it's 87 and older. if it was 88 and newer then I'd need some sort of electric oil pump system. I still thank you for attempting to help.

thanks, but I have everything I need now, including a nice lil surprise in my cheap shell I bought. apparently the worn out engine in the 87 was bored 40 over and whatnot, so eventually I'll rebuild it and probably add turbo so I can kick pcbootleger's ***.
