Starts then immediately stops - any ideas?

Ok, heres my problem.
My car will start, then in less than a second it will stop running. I cant really even say that it runs at all, just starts then stops.
I have two Camaros, both with the same problem!
Any ideas would help.
thank you

not 100% sure but it could be that your timing is off or the engine is flooded.

If flooded I would remove all spark plugs, crank engine for a few seconds, wait a few minutes, then reinstall spark plugs. While spark plugs are out clean the tips. I had to do this and my car started right up.

Got any error codes.

Double and triple check the ignition. Also see that the injectors are injecting... could be a lot of things,

Is the engine throwing any codes?

Clogged fuel filter? Bad fuel pump? Check fuel pressure.

Bad spark? Check spark.

Bad injectors? Smell tailpipe. (Crude, but somewhat effective, and far better than ripping the plenum apart)

Bad MAF/MAP/IAC/Other electronic components? Check for codes.

A bad pickup coil (inside the distributer- not the ignition coil) will cause a motor to only start breifly then die- It is often mistaken for a bad fuel system(a.k.a.- bad fuel pump, injectors, regulator etc.)

I'd go over the ignition first. Could it use a Major TuneUp anyway? If so, yank the distributor, rebuilt it, with new ignition components, and do the Major TuneUp.

See how it goes then.

check the vacuum line for the power brake booster. If it's come off, you'll have sooo much vacuum loss that the motor will immediatly die.

MAF's are extremely touchy.. My friend had an 86 Camaro that would would periodically start, then stall...start, then stall...over and over again. It was a faulty MAF.

I was hoping I'd never have to experience the MAF's, since my Camaro had a 3.1 (non-MAF motor)....but then I got the 302. So far, so good. MAF's are too expensive to have fail frequently.

The car will start and run without a MAF hooked up- Just unplug and see if that the problem

Did you happen to recently replace the pickup coils in the distributors? If so, open the bypass and see if they run. If so, then the pickup coil polarity is reversed.
